In 2014, the post-hardcore humble beginnings of Scottish outfit Flood Of Red are now just a mere distant memory. Gone were the screams come their debut album, ‘Leaving Everything Behind’, instead opting for far more atmospheric and through provoking rock that had much more depth to digest. But, since the album’s release and a few tours to help promote it, the Flood Of Red camp became a bit quiet, save for a quick EP last year.

Now, with second album ‘Throw’ out there, we’re glad to see Flood Of Red back on the scene, and we’re even more thankful to see that not only has their more intelligent approach to music maintained, but they’ve even expanded upon it. With the new album as fresh as it can be on our ears, we spoke with frontman Jordan Spiers about the record, how he feels it carries on from ‘Leaving Everything Behind’, future plans and more.

A catchy chorus is not requisite for a killer song. It’s difficult to imagine Godspeed You! Black Emperor sweating too much over words that rhyme with “baby”, or The Dillinger Escape Plan slaving over the toe-tappicity of their latest mind melter. But, away from the fringe and into the arena of more mainstream genres, being able to pen a cerebral bore of a hook is a useful and lucrative skill to have.
