If there’s one thing to take away from Defeater‘s vitriolic live show, it’s that Derek Archambault‘s father was a bastard. Good thing for us though, as this angst and anger provides some seriously combustible fuel to drive the band’s hardcore engine. Tonight sees the band scour the breadth of their catalogue, from the throat-shredders of old to the Americana-tinged acoustic rock of their newer material.

Halloween is the perfect setting for HIM to play their first of two sold out shows at London’s Koko with fans in full costume flooding in to see Finland’s finest love metal band, touring in support of their 2013 album, ‘Tears On Tape’. These people don’t just like HIM, they live for them. There are heartagrams from wall-to-wall inside the venue, whether they’re shirts, patches, tattoos, or posters, the place is covered.

Eight years ago was the start of the new instrumental era for post-rock; Caspian, a fresh faced band ready to explore the boundaries of instrumental music. Just like Sigur Rós, the band have built up a rapid fan base with their atmospheric sound. This year sees the release of their follow-up to 2009’s ‘Tertia’; ‘Waking Season’ is an album compromised of symphonic sounds and melodic arrangements which embrace the post-rock genre. Their style differs from other instrumental bands, through their sculpturing of their own sound, but this is a release where the band fully come into their own.
