It would come as no surprise if the 2016 run of Download Festival would be known forever going forward as the year of Drownload. Easily the wettest Download Festival to have happened, with storms and torrential downpours happening throughout almost the whole weekend, it’d be impossible to be mud free, even if you were only catching one band. Thankfully, we had wellies and warm waterproof clothing well equipped. Download, let’s be ‘aving ya!

FEATURE: How bands and musicians reacted to the UK leaving the EU!

uk-eu

Yesterday (June 24th 2016), after hours and hours of voting across the country, and then those votes being counted up, the UK made the decision to leave the EU. For those who aren’t quite sure what that is, that’s the European Union – a selection of countries across Europe that work together in a huge number of ways, including economically, travel, and trade, if we’re going to be super brief about it.

The UK has been a part of the EU for over four decades, and following the poll results is the first country (or, set of countries as it includes England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland) to decide to leave the union after being a part of it. Of course, such a decision has split the opinions of many up and down the country, and as it affects the music industry, many musicians have also expressed their feelings on this historic decision.

Rating:

With an evening of metallic delights in store, Aussie brutes Thy Art Is Murder [8] turn in a suitably savage opening, veering from their signature thudding extremity and claw hammer death metal blows with all the blood thirst and ferocity of a headline performance. Indeed, it is heartening to see that the recent departure of frontman CJ Mahon has done little to hamper the bands live presence, stand in vocalist Nick Arthur delivering a imperiously barbaric display and imbuing the likes of closer ‘Holy War’ with a steel-eyed conviction and guttural brutality:

ALBUM: Bury Tomorrow – Earthbound

burytomorrow-earthbound

Release Date: January 29th 2016
Label: Nuclear Blast Records
Website: www.burytomorrow.co

Rating:

It’s strange to think that back in 2011, Bury Tomorrow were strongly considering giving it all up. Being left without a label and very little money following pressure to adjust who they were, and even to move out and base themselves in North America, the Southampton quintet were on the brink of demise. Yet, here we are, now 10 years into a band who are – in the grand scheme of things – still so young in their careers, and with album number four, ‘Earthbound’; a record that truly sees them flourish from another potential paint-by-numbers metalcore act into one of the elite of the genre in the UK.
