FEATURE: The MySpace Generation: Where Are They Now?

In February, the social media giant that is Facebook celebrated their 12 year anniversary. Back before the days when Facebook ruled the roost (yeah, we’re going back a bit now), MySpace was the social media daddy.

Sure, if you were a regular MySpace user, you probably recall the intense amounts of huge fake hair with multiple colours, the range of ‘scene’ names where you’d include anything mildly gory or dangerous if it wasn’t “RAWR”, whore trains, a plethora of bulletins asking for PC4PC/S4S/W4W/etc or telling you to repost something or you’ll die, amongst others. However, one of the things that kept MySpace such a interesting prospect from its inception to its dwindling demise from about 2008 onwards was what it did for music.

ALBUM: Blood On The Dance Floor – The Anthem Of The Outcast

Release Date: November 27th, 2012
Label: Dark Fantasy

Rating:

It’s difficult to understand how an electro (can it even be classed as that?), MySpace worshipped band such as Blood On The Dance Floor have continued to create music. Since 2007, BOTDF have been pushing their overdubbed and synth attempt of music into the public eye; at least they have ambition. They’re a band that are loved and hated in equal measurements but perhaps their attempts to crack the wave of electro music will finally come to an end. It’s a shame that ‘The Anthem Of The Outcast’ won’t be setting anyone’s New Year alight this time around.

Year after year, the Vans Warped Tour that dominates the US taunts us from across the pond, with its fantastic weather and even more fantastic line-up of bands. But now, after 14 years of waiting, it has returned to the UK. Unlike its American counterpart, the event is held inside and sunshine is not a feature either, but today it’s all about the music. Co-headliners of the main stage are Welsh rockers Lostprophets, who are half way through a full UK tour, and Sheffield metallers Bring Me The Horizon, with this being their only UK show this year.

ALBUM: Blood On The Dance Floor – All The Rage!!

Release Date: June 14th, 2011
Label: Candyland Records
Website: None available
MySpace: www.myspace.com/bloodonthedancefloor

Rating:

Blood On The Dance Floor have (sadly) returned with another record after their most recent ‘Epic’ back less than a year ago in October 2010. This album is just your typical power-pop/emo-pop garbage. With large amounts of synthesizers and auto-tuning the record comes across as overly manufactured, and unless you saw what they looked like could easily pass for yet another second-rate pop act heard constantly on the radio. Consisting of poor, amateur lyrics, irritating vocals and too much studio work aside this only makes for rage listening to it. If Dahvie Vanity and Jayy Von Monroe‘s stereotypical ‘scene kid’ image isn’t enough to put you off of this duo, then this album should certainly do the job.
