It’s a very rare occurrence for a metalcore band to create a full-length studio album revolving around the theme of a holiday season. Following a few consecutive years of releasing the one-off Christmas song, August Burns Red went ahead and did a full album of them. On their UK tour shortly after its release, we stopped by at the Manchester date to chat to the guys about the record, future plans and more:

For your alternative sermon tonight, August Burns Red and The Devil Wears Prada will be preaching the word of our lord Jesus Christ. Don’t mention Veil Of Maya though, or He’ll smite you down. Crucifixes at the ready and let’s see those hands.

Thesaurus.com has over 100 synonyms for the word ‘brutal’, therefore, I have no excuse to use that word other than in this sentence. August Burns Red are one of the best metalcore bands around. Fact. Guitarist JB Brubaker stated that the genre “has almost become very formulaic, and metal to me was never a formulaic genre” and it’s safe to say that ABR are far from formulaic. They merely use hardcore as a foundation to build and then add flawless solos from all aspects of the band. The two support bands here tonight aren’t you standard hardcore bands either. So, with three destructive bands on the bill, you can expect there to be more breakdowns than a weekend in a mental hospital.

’tis the season to be jolly, right? Well, if there’s any band that needed to do a Christmas album, it’s August Burns Red, a band who rely on thick and heavy screams paralleled by humungous riffs able to give any sack bearer a heart attack. The complete opposite of the appropriate band to create a complete Christmas themed album it would seem.
