American metalcore outfit Attack Attack! have come a long way since their ‘crabcore’ beginnings back in 2009 when they released their debut music video for ‘Stick Stickly’. As necessary for the band to grow out of the self created joke they made, the band’s most recent full-length effort ‘This Means War’ marked the sound of a band firmly out of their puberty stages. We caught up with drummer Andrew Wetzel on their headline UK tour to talk about the record, how it came to be and more:

Still known by many for their crabcore pioneering video for their track ‘Stick Stickly’, Ohio’s Attack Attack! have certainely grown and matured over the past three years since that was released. Now, with album #3 ‘This Means War’ under their belt, adopting a more mature metalcore sound, we caught the guys on the Manchester date of the UK tour to promote the record, along with support bands Heights, Calore and The Final Crisis. It’s fair to say that Attack Attack! have grown up a lot since their infamous crabcore beginnings from 2009′s video for ‘Stick Stickly’. Three albums into their career, the latest being this year’s ‘This Means War’, and the band are gradually maturing away from their original “scene” style, combining electro and metal, and becoming more of a metalcore band. A new promo tour of the UK however will see how their popularity has maintained.

You may remember Attack Attack! as the pioneers of the infamous ‘crabcore’ genre, known for their synchronised headbanging that somewhat resembles a crab, one dimensional breakdowns and auto-tuned vocals. If you do, and this makes you somewhat sceptical about ‘This Means War’, then you should be throwing all your preconceptions out of the window on this one, because AA! have grown up big time. This is big boy music now.
