Label: Metal Blade Records

Rating:

With the deathcore hoardes beginning to steadily dwindle away, it’s now more than ever clear which outfits have the vitality to truely outlive the genres increasingly limited self life. Forerunners Whitechapel are one such band, and with this, their tellingly self-titled fourth full-length, the Tennessee sextet exert a level of invention and sheer brute power which shows them to have undeninably out-grown their peers.

RED BULL BEDROOM JAM 2012 PREVIEW: Reachback

This year’s Red Bull Bedroom Jam final 8 bands have just wrapped up what to most bands would be a once in a life-time experience: performing a set at Donington’s Download Festival. Along with a set at Slam Dunk a few weeks prior, we got in touch with female fronted rockers Reachback to talk about their experiences so far and what they’ve got planned very soon:

Release Date: June 19th, 2012
Label: Century Media Records
Website: None available
Facebook: www.facebook.com/spineshank
Twitter: www.twitter.com/spineshankband

Rating:

With nu-metal a rather maligned genre nowadays, it’s difficult to be any degree of excited when a band re-emerges to assumedly pedal a sound that has dated so assuredly. In the case of Spineshank, one may be pleasantly surprised with ‘Anger Denial Acceptance’, the outfit’s first release since 2003, with a peppering of modern aggression seeing a resurgence which marks more than a simple reminisence of aged glories.

EP: Chelsea Grin – Evolve

Release Date: June 19th, 2012
Label: Artery Recordings
Website: www.chelseagrinmetal.com
Facebook: www.facebook.com/chelseagrinmetal
Twitter: www.twitter.com/chelseagrinut

Rating:

Splinter did it for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Professor Xavier did it for the X-Men and now Jason Richardson has done it with Chelsea Grin. The band were nothing before, but the ex-Born Of Osiris guitarist has somehow managed to turn Chelsea Grin from being pretty piss poor into a band that’s actually relevant in the deathcore scene. ‘Evolve’ may only be five tracks long, but those five tracks are some of the best you will hear this year.

ALBUM: Lit – The View From The Bottom

Release Date: June 19th, 2012
Label: Megaforce Records
Website: www.litband.com
Facebook: www.facebook.com/litlounge
Twitter: www.twitter.com/litbandofficial

Rating:

Many bands have ups and downs across their career, but for most of them the downs consist of arguments between members, disputes with record labels and other problems that can steadily be resolved. California rock outfit Lit however weren’t so lucky, but have finally returned with their first full-length record since 2004 having sadly lost their drummer Allen Shellenberger to cancer in 2009. Whilst this has obviously had an effect on their music, across the new album they still manage to maintain a catchy rock sound reminiscent of previous big-hitters, such as ‘My Own Worst Enemy’ that helped them become known.

ALBUM: The Ghost Inside – Get What You Give

Release Date: June 19th, 2012
Label: Epitaph
Website: www.theghostinside.com
Facebook: www.facebook.com/theghostinside
Twitter: www.twitter.com/theghostinside

Rating:

Never far shy of giving scene forerunners Parkway Drive a run for their money in terms of elephantian heavy, breakdown laden metalcore, California’s The Ghost Inside undeniably have a knack for making the listener want to plough their fist through a wall. Yet, with ‘Get What You Give’, the band’s third full-length release, this trademark stomp and bounce has been counterbalanced by a eleviated sense of melody which will inevitably see purists scoff, but which can only prove to further spearhead the band’s soaring popularity

ALBUM: Dr. Acula – Nation

Release Date: June 19th, 2012
Label: Victory Records
Website: None available
Facebook: www.facebook.com/dr.aculaband
Twitter: www.twitter.com/draculabandny

Rating:

Growing up can sometimes be dull. You have to get a job, get a house, pay bills and generally have mundane responsibilities. However, with growing up comes maturity (for the most part) and Dr. Acula certainly have learnt this. Still branding themselves as ‘party metal’, by no means are they toning things down, they’re simply executing the deathcore vibe in a more astute, intellectual way and it’s paying off indefinitely.
