Rating:

It’s fair to say that Thick As Blood have been around for quite a while, since 2004 in fact. It would also be fair to say that they haven’t quite grasped everybody’s full attention, but with a recent move to Rise Records and a brand new full-length, that could all be about to change.

Rating:

It’s been a long time since we last saw The Early November release an album. Their three-disk effort ‘The Mother, The Mechanic, And The Path’, released in 2006, saw them at the height of their popularity in a healthy emo scene. Have things changed? Does ‘In Currents’ maintain the magic of their earlier releases? Is this a successful comeback from the New Jersey foursome?

ALBUM: Canterbury – Heavy In The Day

Release Date: July 9th, 2012
Label: Sweet Lime Records
Website: www.heavyintheday.com
Facebook: www.facebook.com/thisiscanterbury
Twitter: www.twitter.com/canterburymusic

Rating:

Having been around for about seven years now with no real recognition for their work, it’s good to see that indie rock quartet Canterbury are finally becoming distinguished from the abysmal indie-rock that has been churned out so mundanely in recent years. Considering the physical youth of the band members, touring with bands such as You Me At Six, Twin Atlantic and Enter Shikari is no small feat, and it’s statistics such as these that truly show off the talent that Canterbury have proven they possess with their most recent effort, ‘Heavy In The Day’.

Release Date: July 9th, 2012
Label: Roadrunner Records
Website: www.rush.com
Facebook: www.facebook.com/rushtheband
Twitter: www.twitter.com/rushtheband

Rating:

Prog rock has the ability to polarise music lovers everywhere. Some people worship it, others want it killed with fire. However, whether you love it or loathe it, there’s no denying the talent and dedication of the band Rush. Born out of the embers of the dying prog scene in the late 70s, the Canadian three piece adopted new sounds during the 80s such as synthsisers and drum machines to keep their sound as fresh as they could.

EP: Press To Meco – Press To Meco

Release Date: July 9th, 2012
Label: Unsigned
Website: None available
Facebook: www.facebook.com/presstomecouk
Twitter: www.twitter.com/presstomecouk

Rating:

‘MECO’ is actually a term that NASA use when a rocket in orbit cannot return to earth and stands for main engine cut off, a pretty frightening and bleak prospect especially for any budding astronaughts reading this. However, Press To Meco make the furthest thing away from bleak rock music you can possibly imagine. A pulsating and energetic mass of gloriously catchy riffs and sickly sweet vocals make up their first self-titled EP, ‘Press To Meco’. The music thunders along at an astonishing rate, almost as if guitarist Luke Caley and bassist Adam Roffey can’t wait to hit the next bridge or riff and this is by no means a criticism.

Rating:

It’s great when a band genuinely surprises you with their material, and that’s absolutely the case with Norwich’s Fist Full Of Lies. If you’re expecting predictable and tiresome songs then think again, as ‘If It Wasn’t For This I’d Still Have Everything’ is an absolutely sensational EP.

EP: Wolves – Cycles

Release Date: July 9th, 2012
Label: Unsigned
Website: None available
Facebook: www.facebook.com/wolvesuk
Twitter: www.twitter.com/wolvesbanduk

Rating:

Aside from the odd drunken girl that I may or may not have made a remark at, I have never heard anything from anyone that’s prepared to completely blow my face off and tear me apart, limb from limb, with such determination and relent as the Welsh quartet, Wolves. The band’s latest EP, ‘Cycles’ is a four track combination of bitterness and spite and is so unforgiving in its performance.
