Label: Metal Blade Records

Rating:

Between The Buried And Me are not your average band. An average band would not play metalcore mixed in with hoedowns and jazz sections. They are the sort of band that’d stay behind after music class and spend their lunch break jamming in the studio. They know what the fuck they’re doing. They’re the band that would result if someone really pissed off Dream Theater.

Rating:

Toronto’s METZ are one of those bands that fly under the musical radar, but probably deserve your attention more than most of the other mindless dirge that’s being churned out do. This self-titled debut LP is a perfect testament as to why this is the case.

ALBUM: The Acacia Strain – Death Is The Only Mortal

Release Date: October 9th, 2012
Label: Rise Records
Website: www.theacaciastrain.com
Facebook: www.facebook.com/theacaciastrain
Twitter: www.twitter.com/theacaciastrain

Rating:

Reliably misanthropic and with a venomous streak that would put most heavy hitters in the shade, one goes into an The Acacia Strain record with certain expectations already firmly cemented. Although, with the band recently jumping ship to Rise Records, a label known equally for sugary chorus hooks than thuggish breakdowns, a shred of unease began to seep into the release of ‘Death Is The Only Mortal’. Would the band’s brutish attack be somewhat compromised by this switch?

ALBUM: Floods – Floods

Release Date: October 8th, 2012
Label: Small Town Records

Facebook: www.facebook.com/floodsuk
Twitter: www.twitter.com/floodsuk

Rating:

Gaining quite a large amount of attention from the British public last year during their involvement in the festival 8 of the Red Bull Bedroom Jam contest, St. Albans post-hardcore outfit Floods were easily one of the more exciting live bands in the line-up. Their debut full-length has been highly anticipated since that run of festivals last summer, and though being one of the last bands involved to make a substantial release since then, their self-titled effort proves to be worth the wait.

Turbowolf have been sonically destroying our ear drums and warping our minds with their fuzz-loaded psychedelic rock for many a year now, and after smashing this year’s festival circuit they have released this covers EP, the first of many yet to come.

ALBUM: Hostage Calm – Please Remain Calm

Release Date: October 8th, 2012
Label: Run For Cover Records
Website: www.hostagecalm.net
Facebook: www.facebook.com/hostagecalm
Twitter: www.twitter.com/hostagecalm

Rating:

Connecticut five-piece alternative rockers Hostage Calm have released the follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut, ‘Please Remain Calm’, but it’s doubtful that it’ll be reaching the heights of its predecessor. On paper, Hostage Calm sound like an exciting fresh band, mixing “Bruce Springsteen heartland rock, 60s pop melody, 70s punk energy, 80s new wave panache”. On record, they are far from this.
