Rating:

The best way to describe this album is kick-ass, bad-ass and awesome. Before even listening to a single second of ‘Revelry & Resilience’, you can just tell this by the band name Gypsyhawk and some of the track titles, including closer ‘Rock And Roll, Hoochie Koo’.

Rating:

Now, even fans of the genre will admit that it’s pretty damn difficult to get excited about alt-country, this was true even in a time when people actually cared about alt-country. Fast-forward to 2012, however, and you have yourself a whole new level of apathy, a level that you think would be fairly unrivalled. That is, until the vocals kick in at around the half-minute mark on ‘Wake’‘s opener, ‘Sleeping Softly’.

Rating:

Behold! The City are a self-proclaimed ‘Christian hardcore’ band who hail from Barrie in Canada. ‘Seekers’ is the debut full-length album from the quintet, and for many will be the first introduction to the band. Opening track of grinding mechanical guitar noises sets the tone for the first track proper, ‘Resuscitate’, which sets the album off to an encouraging start with coarse spitting vocals and enjoyable guitar work, a general style echoed by many of the earlier tracks.

Rating:

Free from record label constraints, the new found freedom a band finds themselves able to play with is a somewhat double-edged sword. On the one hand, the liberty to experiment and to choose a path they truly desire is now wholly unrestricted, yet on the other this sudden lack of boundaries could see disastrous consequences, with a perhaps left-field direction that proves to alienate the band’s core fan base. Although, with the ever eclectic Circa Surviv‘Violent Waves’ sees the quintet at their most ambitious.

Rating:

City Rain haven’t been around for very long, but ‘Montage’ marks the third release the band have produced in a year, so they’re anything but inexperienced. City Rain fall into the synth pop band genre, and if you’re a fan of this type of music you’re in for a treat.

Rating:

If you like your music powerful, emotional and ballad heavy, but entwined with acoustic work that haunts the soul, City Of Lights could be your new favourite band. They have enjoyed an extremely positive live following and are certainly heading towards great things after acquiring a solid fan base. The Leeds based band have just released their debut album, ‘Seasons Change’; an uplifting showcase of their soft and catchy take on indie rock. If you take the sound of Snow Patrol, the lyric work of Biffy Clyro and top it all off with a Frank Turner tinge, you get ‘Seasons Change’.

Rating:

Imagine if in just two years, one could claim international No. 1 chart success, tour with Coldplay, play Wembley and also sign to Roc Nation (Jay-Z), all before one’s 22nd birthday. Somehow, Rita Ora has ticked all of the above. Folk say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but when the cover is a 21-year-old Kosovo born beauty queen, what’s the point in opening the book, right?
