Rating:

A Texas grown indie three-piece band, Sick/Sea, have released their new EP, ‘Moral Compass’. It;s been the first step into the sea for this band, standing on their own two feet with a successful first release. They’re a band like many others, fronted by female singer, Audrey Scott. It;s hard to compare Sick/Sea to that of Paramore or No Doubt, and is there any need for another copycat band?

EP: For The Foxes – The Revolution

Release Date: October 15th, 2012
Label: Hopeless Records
Website: None available
Facebook: www.facebook.com/forthefoxes
Twitter: www.twitter.com/forthefoxesband

Rating:

For The Foxes are a band who have recently toured alongside Mayday Parade and Rocky Loves Emily, and offer something a little different to both of those outfits. Yes, it’s pop-punk and yes, it ticks all the boxes you’d come to expect with such a well-worn genre, but this band feel like the new lease of life given to this type of music that it probably needs.

EP: Light You Up – Broken Jaw

Release Date: October 15th, 2012
Label: Great Escape Records
Website: None available
Facebook: www.facebook.com/lightyouupofficial
Twitter: www.twitter.com/lightyouupband

Rating:

Interesting pop-punk bands are often hard to come by as it’s a genre saturated by so many whimsical and flimsy groups. Birmingham’s Light You Up certainley aren’t one of them and seem like a band with endless potential. Debut EP, ‘Broken Jaw’, opens with ‘Foxfire’, a seriously upbeat and fun song which flows effortlessly and is practically the perfect way to begin the short but sweet EP.

Label: Peaceville Records
Website: www.mydyingbride.net
Facebook: www.facebook.com/mydyingbride
Twitter: www.twitter.com/mdb_the_band

Rating:

It’s amazing how music can evoke emotions so easily. The emotion of the moment for My Dying Bride is sorrow. Sorrow, hopelessness, and despair. MDB truly are some unhappy chappies. ‘A Map Of All Our Failures’ is the band’s eleventh studio album, and one that won’t surprise any listeners.

EP: In Search Of Fire – Serotonin Storm

Release Date: October 15th, 2012
Label: Unsigned
Website: None available

Rating:

From the first song on ‘Serotonin Storm’, it’s easy to tell that there’s more than one style incorporated into In Search Of Fire‘s music. Although the band only formed in February 2012, their music sounds as if the band have been together for years. ‘Serotonin Storm’ is the band’s debut EP, but definitely makes their mark as a serious band.

Rating:

If you’re into your third-wave ska then you may at some point have stumbled across Sonic Boom Six. If not you should educate yourself son, for until you do so you’re unfit to call yourself a ska fan. Facebook: www.facebook.com/thehaarpmachine

Rating:

“I don’t understand this whole djent thing!” I hear you cry. Well, look no further than The HAARP Machine to describe what exactly this new fangled fad is all about. A futuristic guitar tone, technical melodies, and… a sitar? That’s what djent is all about. It doesn’t have to make sense, and if you find yourself hooked after one listen then you only have yourself to blame.

EP: Amy Can Flyy – The Start

Release Date: October 15th, 2012
Label: Horsepower
Website: www.amycanflyy.com
Facebook: www.facebook.com/amycanflyy
Twitter: www.twitter.com/amycanflyy

Rating:

It’s easy to set up a derogative band like Bournemouth’s Amy Can Flyy, but to make successful music is an entirely different element. The term ‘bubblegum pop’ is widely used in reference to Amy Can Flyy, they lack anything pop-punk to put them into that category. Since forming in 2006, they have climbed the ladder of social media in order to highlight themselves right under the noses of music labels and record stores. However, everyone has to start somewhere and I guess this is Amy Can Flyy; the type of band who think it’s cool to add an extra letter to a word in order to be noticed.

ALBUM: Patrick Wolf – Sundark And Riverlight

Release Date: October 15th, 2012
Label: Hideout Recordings
Website: www.patrickwolf.com
Facebook: www.facebook.com/patrickwolf
Twitter: www.twitter.com/_patrick_wolf

Rating:

‘Sundark And Riverlight’ is the sixth album from Patrick Wolf, which also marks the celebration to his 10-year musical anniversary. The album is a collection of reworked versions of his already acclaimed music, making this his first efforts at reworking great music and venturing into the acoustic sound. Wolf has introduced a stripped back version, it’s an interesting reroute of his music, but there’s an absence without the dramatic flaunting and the pretentiousness in the music that he’s known for creating.
