Admittedly, I knew nothing of Lowtalker before listening to their new EP, ‘The Marathon’ and after doing a bit of research, I was surprised to learn that members of the band also feature in the hardcore acts Comeback Kid and Misery Signals. An interesting fact for some, an irrelevant one to others.

ALBUM: Title Fight – Floral Green

Release Date: September 18th, 2012
Label: SideOneDummy Records
Website: www.title-fight.net
Facebook: www.facebook.com/titlefight

Rating:

It seems at the moment that going from a bouncy, yelpy punk band to a more considered, 90s influenced punk band is the trend with some bands. Title Fight have decided to take this route with their most recent release, ‘Floral Green’. Whereas previous release ‘Shed’ sounded like it was the anthem to thousands of teenage bedroom angst sessions, ‘Floral Green’ feels like it has made the move to the basement, doubled the angst, but taken a more mature reflective look at the music Title Fight make.

With an astonishing reaction to their debut album, ‘That Was Then, This Is Now’, we catch up with the genre warping The James Cleaver Quintet to talk about their success, cock-farting (yep, really) their eclectic sound, how they felt their Hevy Festival set went the day before and where that’s all derived from:

Rating:

Massachusetts alternative rockers Dinosaur Jr.‘s tenth album, ‘I Bet On Sky’, sees them continue to establish their well built up lo-fi, distorted songs on another great output. Opener ‘Don’t Pretend You Didn’t Know’ (which was also featured in Kerrang! Magazine’s top 250 songs of the year) also sees the band meld their distinctive fuzz and distorted rock, with the addition of a string section.

Facebook: www.facebook.com/balanceandcomposure

Somewhat standing out from the rest at Hevy, Balance & Composure put on one of the most energetic and passionate performances across the whole weekend, not letting the fact they’re one of the most mellow bands in the line-up deter them. This being the first date of a short UK tour, they certainly set the bar high for the rest of the week. We spoke with them to talk about Hevy, the upcoming tour and more:

Very few bands can journey through different extremes of music and pull it off as majestically as London based post-hardcore outfit, Devil Sold His Soul. Despite musically performing some of the more intricate and beautiful yet heavy and organic material known in the scene, DSHS are one of those bands who are deserving of far more accolades and praise than they have received to date. Now, with album number three under their belts, ‘Empire Of Light’, it really seems like 2012 might be the year things finally pay in their favour.

Classic rock bands have a lot to live up to when releasing new material. Most memorable rock giants have been making music before most of us were even born and to keep their sound fresh without upsetting legions of die hard fans must be a ludicrously hard task, especially in an era where bands form and fall in the blink of an eye.

Rating:

It’s safe to say that these guys have been some very busy little beavers over the last few years. Not only did they go on two self-funded tours of the UK, but they also somehow managed to find the time to record an acoustic EP too. This EP caught the attention of Neil Starr (Attack! Attack!) and Gavin Butler (The Blackout) and were asked to open for them during a tour of their side-project, Ghosts & Echoes. What’s even more impressive is that the age range of this band is 16-19 years old. I’m 22, and my biggest accomplishment so far is unlocking mirror mode on Mario Kart.
