Whilst people were waiting anxiously for news on a third The 1975, the Manchester indie-pop outfit have now confirmed that they’ve got not just one record ready to go this year, but another one set to release next year too.

The band were talking on Annie Mac‘s BBC Radio 1 show earlier this week (May 31st 2018) when they shared the news of the two forthcoming records.

The first, ‘A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships’, is set to drop in October 2018, with the second, supposedly called ‘Notes On A Conditional Form’, to be released in May 2019. Both records were recorded “in the countryside” in the bands’ private homes and have been produced by drummer, George Daniels.

Originally expected to be called ‘Music For Cars’, taken from their 2013 EP of the same name, frontman Matt Healey states this will now be the name of the band’s era in which the two records will be released.

He also explained more behind the change of name via Apple Beats 1.

“There is no album called ‘Music For Cars’. ‘Music For Cars’ was what I was going to call this album which is now called ‘A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships’, and the reason I changed my mind is because I realised that, you know, every writer wants a great ending, right? That’s what you want as part of your repertoire, and I think that I had the drive to do that so much throughout ‘I Like It When You Sleep…’, do you know what I mean? It was kind of driving me, and then when I started making this record I realised that I was just being naive. I was kind of lying to myself, you know? I’m not going to stop The 1975 next year. Like, no way. I don’t wanna do that, and I’m never ashamed of changing my mind in public, so I thought “Well, you know what? ‘Music For Cars’ is the era.” You know? It’s the umbrella for whatever music comes out in this timeframe, so, we’re actually doing two albums; we’re doing ‘A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships’, and then I think in like May next year we’re dropping ‘Notes On A Conditional Form’, which is a different album.”

More details surrounding The 1975‘s forthcoming albums will be confirmed as they develop.
