WHAT THE BAND SAY:
DP!: How would you describe yourselves to someone who has never heard As Everything Unfolds before?
AEU: It’s always really difficult for us to describe our sound, it’s easy to say “a heavier riffier Paramore with synths”, but really that only scratches the surface. We like to fuse a lot of post-hardcore with electronic elements, a splash of djent, some alternative for good measure, and every now and again just a little touch of R&B and soul.
DP!: How did the band form?
AEU: The band formed early on in 2013 as an acoustic duo between Adam Kerr (guitar) and Alex Paton (ex-guitar and vocals) but was soon joined by Jon Cassidy (synths) and George Hunt (bass), though that particular incarnation of As Everything Unfolds is nothing like the one we are today.
When Charlie Rolfe (vocals) joined in late 2014 the band truly began to take shape, with the sound, image and fanbase all only really coming into fruition from this point onwards. We like to classify As Everything Unfolds as forming from when Charlie joined, but we have heritage and roots from before then that we like to stay humble from.
DP!: What plans do you have for the future?
AEU: Our plans for the future are definitely to break out onto the scene, cause a lot of noise, and get noticed by a lot of people. We’re all on this journey together, and we’re aiming as high as we can go. We won’t spill any details, but definitely watch this space!
DP!: Which new bands are you listening to right now?
AEU: We’re loving TheCityIsOurs, Dream State, The Escape Artist, VNDTA, THRILLCHASER, Lotus Eater, Greyhaven, Death Goals, and Sleep Token at the minute. There’s so much good music coming out of the scene right now!
DP!: Which bands do you aspire to and why?
AEU: We really aspire to some of the most iconic bands out there. We probably won’t ever reach this kind of status, but bands like My Chemical Romance, Bring Me The Horizon, Architects, Enter Shikari, and Fall Out Boy are definitely idols for us.
DP!: What’s the stand out moment in your career so far?
AEU: It’s hard to choose between; playing alongside some phenomenal bands such as Dream State, Novelists, Black Peaks, and Palm Reader, and seeing people you don’t know out on the street wearing your merch. It will never stop being surreal seeing people wearing your merch and supporting your band.
But, if we had to pick one definitive thing, it would be the London date of our ’17:10′ release tour. Without a doubt London always brings our craziest fans, and after one of the pits knocked part of the roof down (sorry 229!) we knew it was a night that we’d never forget.
