The world of post-hardcore seems to be expanding at a rate faster than the universe itself. While that indeed does defies the laws of physics, it’s still true; not a month goes by where a sizeable handful of hate ridden twenty-somethings throw caution to the wind and share their music with the world via a ‘pay what you want’ feature on BandCamp.

The law of averages dictate that some will be great, some will be shit, but most well be distinctly mediocre. On this scale, Crawley’s A Room Swept White lie somewhere between okay and great, better than average but far from unique.

While each member of the band excel at what they do, and their new EP ‘No Love Lost’ boasts a solid collection of well-written songs, after a few listens this Southern five-piece come across as just another post-hardcore band. Sure, the band somewhat break the mould with ‘This-Life’, a full throttle, punky epic, but the rest are just breakdown-ridden, painfully-generic, palm-muted, overzealous angst anthems.

Despite the fact that this EP is as middle of the road as a central reservation, there’s a copious amount of potential hidden within ARSW. Vocalist Ryan Elliott clearly has some spectacular pipes, especially on their Between The Buried And Me–esque EP opener, ‘Recollection’. With hints of Architects and August Burns Red here and there, ARSW have the capability to do something spectacular.

‘No Love Lost’ is one of their first releases and, talent-wise, the band have set the bar pretty damn high. All they need to do is break free from the standard template post-hardcore shackles that are holding them back and create something truly groundbreaking.
