Rating:

Deathcore as a genre is something that has been done to death, reaching its zenith in the mid-2000s with bands such as Job For A Cowboy, Whitechapel, and Carnifex, so to create a band within this genre is almost a risk few should make. In the case of Alabama’s Widowmaker, however, this seems to have been pulled off successfully.

Twitter: www.twitter.com/alphamaletparty

Rating:

Even with the surging popularity and emergence of acts within the world of rock and metal, there seems to be a lack of appreciation for instrumental acts, substituting a focus on vocals for an increase in captivation within the instrumentation of their songwriting. Liverpool’s technical/djent metallers Alpha Male Tea Party aim to change this with their latest release, ‘Health’.

ALBUM: Ded – mis•an•thrope

Release Date: July 21st 2017
Label: Suretone Records
Website: None available
Facebook: www.facebook.com/dedofficial
Twitter: www.twitter.com/weareded

Rating:

If you were to say “Hey, anybody know any good nu-metal bands?” in 2017, this would be followed by one of two responses; the first being complete silence, and the second would be accompanied by a bit of ridicule, and in most cases with good reason. Though a recent revival of the genre has seen some fresh spins on the dated genre, Ded‘s debut full-length ‘mis•an•thrope’ just doesn’t cut the mustard.

Website: None available
Facebook: www.facebook.com/kamikazegirlsuk
Twitter: www.twitter.com/kamikazegirls_

Rating:

‘Seafoam’ is the debut album from Leeds/London duo Kamikaze Girls, and with it the bar for future releases has already been set very, very high. The album tackles issues such as depression and anxiety, and, despite being lyrically focused on such gloomy aspects, this album is fairly upbeat.

Rating:

Canadian metalcore heavyweights Obey The Brave are back with their third studio full-length, ‘Mad Season’. The album starts off with ‘On Thin Ice’, and automatically you’re thrown into the classic metalcore chugs. Along with the melodic choruses and breakdowns, all seems like business as usual in camp Obey The Brave.

Brian Storm has spent his career online as a musical journalist with a sharp comedic edge. Titling himself “The Big Booty Daddy”, he went toe-to-toe with big pharma bro Martin Shkreli, and has still made time to tease his musical talents over the years.

Crafting an intricate blend of death metal, prog, folk and power metal comes Wintersun, the side-project of Ensiferum vocalist, Jari Mäenpää, and has only grown to become the all-encompassing group that they are today. With an album as simple yet complex as ‘The Forest Seasons’ to put the seasons of the year as four different tracks, this is a group who showcase a very progressive vision.

Canadian post-hardcore perennials Silverstein are back to claim more territory on a map that at this stage is mostly theirs. ‘Dead Reflection’, their astonishing ninth album, is a safe bet that still somehow feels a little loose.
