Every three to four years, a particular sub-genre of metal makes a resurgence, and there’s no denying that metalcore has been becoming a more prominent figure in the music industry over the last few years with bands such as LA’s Volumes at the forefront.

‘Somewhere Else’ is the latest offering from Southampton based punk rockers, Miss Vincent, the follow-up return to 2015’s ‘Reasons Not To Sleep’. It’s a short but sweet affair, with each track bringing its far share of fast-pace and emotional content.

ALBUM: Linkin Park – One More Light

Release Date: May 19th 2017
Label: Warner Bros. Records
Website: www.linkinpark.com
Facebook: www.facebook.com/linkinpark
Twitter: www.twitter.com/linkinpark

Rating:

It’s safe to say that California’s Linkin Park have seen a rather aggressive campaign in the run up to the release of their seventh studio album, ‘One More Light’. The band have gone through a rather drastic change in sound, and vocalist Chester Bennington‘s message for fans of the previous material is “move the fuck on”, and that he’d “punch you in your fucking mouth” if you called the band sell-outs. Oh, and “You’re a fucking pussy”, too. Touchy. So, does he have the walk to back up all this talk?

ALBUM: Free Throw – Bear Your Mind

Release Date: May 26th 2017
Label: Triple Crown Records
Website: www.freethrowband.com
Facebook: www.facebook.com/freethrowed
Twitter: www.twitter.com/freethrowemo

Rating:

In the last 5 years, there have been so many bands making emo music relevant again – Moose Blood, Modern Baseball, Sorority Noise, and Daisyhead, to name a few. What sets them apart from the rest is that the records they release are reminiscent of those released in 2007, when emo was at its peak but with a modern twist. Putting Free Throw in a category with bands with such calibre might seem like high praise, however, ‘Bear Your Mind’ is a record that can really stand up with the best of them.

ALBUM: Create To Inspire – Sickness

Release Date: May 26th 2017
Label: Basick Records
Website: None available
Facebook: www.facebook.com/createtoinspireuk
Twitter: www.twitter.com/createtoinspire

Rating:

Stop 2017 and give the award for the most cathartic album of the year to Create To Inspire. The band’s debut album, ‘Sickness’, is a meditation on depression, anxiety, and misfortune that throws unconstrained emotion against a wall of screeching guitars, and comes away with something that is both tantalisingly real and incredibly pessimistic. Let’s just say that you won’t be spinning this one at your wedding.

ALBUM: Defences – With Might And Main

Release Date: May 26th 2017
Label: Unsigned
Website: www.defencesofficial.com
Facebook: www.facebook.com/defences
Twitter: www.twitter.com/defencesband

Rating:

In ‘With Might And Main’, Hertfordshire based alt-metal band Defences have made a well-rounded debut that shows thoughtfulness and a serious abundance of talent. For that we’re grateful, because it’s been a long process. Cherry Duesbury, the lead vocalist of the five-piece, attested to this earlier in the year, “This album is the product of years and years of hard work. It was tough, and there were times I wasn’t sure if it would ever be finished, but we did it, and I am so proud of the end result.”

Release Date: April 28th 2017
Label: Hopeless Records
Website: www.newfoundglory.com
Facebook: www.facebook.com/newfoundglory
Twitter: www.twitter.com/newfoundglory

Rating:

Having been in the game for over 20 years, it’s safe to say that as a band, New Found Glory are older than a small, but sizeable, portion of their fanbase. Now, there’s clearly a reason for their tenure; as well as being the pioneers of the pop-punk movement at the turn of the millennium, they’re also genuinely great musicians who make catchy tunes.

Rating:

Reading’s Veridian are a new rock band to watch out for. Having recently been voted as ‘Artist of the Day’ by the Metro Newspaper, recognition of the band’s talent is increasing (and rightly so). With Don Broco and Lower Than Atlantis-esque vibes, the band are set to be popular in the rock charts, and have firmly found a footing in the genre with the release of their debut EP, ‘40826D’.

Rating:

While Lions Lions have previously released more EPs than full-length albums, the arrival of ‘Monument’, the band’s third studio album, is welcomed. The Massachusetts quintet have been making their mark on the post-hardcore scene since 2008 and, nearly ten years later, continue to represent the genre well.
