A band like Silverstein are one that aren’t regular visitors to the UK, and only pop around perhaps once a year, twice if you’re lucky. Upon the release of their latest full-length album ‘Arrivals & Departures’ they return to Europe for a long-awaited tour. The question is: was it worth the wait? On November 26th 2007 they arrive to give Manchester a shot with their post-hardcore music, accompanied with two support acts, who have never even entered the UK with band business.

Winnington Rec, a venue known locally for its weekend showing of local unsigned bands. Kids gather from around the local areas of Northwich, Winsford, Crewe and more to come and see acts like those on tonight.

The first band up is Secrets Of The Dead (***), the first metal band of the night. Their set is full of rampaging riffs, and shrieking vocals – they’re clearly not for the light hearted. The kids seem to be getting into it, with a group of about 10 of them swinging their arms and getting involved in the night’s first mosh pit. With a set of just about half an hour, give or take a few minutes, Secrets Of The Dead are done, leaving the crowd pumped up and ready for the next act on tonight’s bill.

Brand New are on a tad earlier tonight than originally scheduled, and much of the Birmingham audience seems rather confused with this change, but they arrive to the stage early for a good reason. Unfortunately the lead singer of the band Saosin had been sent to the hospital due to an illness. However, Brand New have stepped in till fill their slot, and are in a way the heroes of Give It A Name in Birmingham this year.
