Takedown Festival has returned for its fourth year since its inception at the University of Southampton Student’s Union. Five stages crammed within two buildings, Southampton now has a British rock festival that shows up many others. Over 40 acts took over the Student’s Union for the day, with Mallory Knox set to headline and close proceedings, and together the line-up caused absolute jubliant mayhem.

Edinburgh indie rockers We Were Promised Jetpacks seem to be perennially flying under the radar. After releasing two excellent albums in ‘These Four Walls’ and ‘In The Pit Of The Stomach’, there wasn’t much to hear from their camp until last year’s quiet release of ‘Unravelling’. In Bristol once again it’s likely the same crowd as last year, but you can bet your bottom dollar that people enjoy them being here.

The growth of metalcore and Sea Shepherds stalwarts Architects over the past few years has been an interesting one to spectate. Following the arguable flop of ‘The Here And Now’ in 2011, the one-two release of the increasingly impressive ‘Daybreaker’ and ‘Lost Forever // Lost Together’ respectively have seen the British troupe progress by leaps and bounds, not just with their craft in the studio, but also as musicians. Back on the road, this is where the guys truly thrive.

A sizeable line of dedicated fans are braving the typically dreary and cold Manchester weather queuing outside of Sound Control eager to see the hard rock boys of Glamour Of The Kill. This ‘After Hours’ tour gives them the opportunity to showcase eagerly anticipated material from their new EP of the same name to their dedicated fanbase.

The Kerrang! Tour is an annual extravaganza featuring rocks rising stars, with a bill more varied than any other – except maybe Warped Tour. While this year’s tour may not match up to last year which hosted legends Limp Bizkit, it instead showcased the best new talent from both the UK and the States.

The past year for Wrexham’s Neck Deep has been unprecedented. Their popularity has risen more rapidly than the amount of kids at Disneyland infected with measles. The ‘Intercontinental Championships’ is their second full length UK tour and comes off the back of a tremendous summer playing Warped Tour in the US. A strong undercard of pop punk means that the O2 Academy may burst into pizza at any moment.

An awful lot can happen in the space of three years. For Canadian electro-pop vixen Lights, in the three years since she last came to Manchester, she married blessthefall frontman Beau Bokan, became a mother to their child Rocket Bokan, and released her third studio album, ‘Little Machines’. Now, with this wealth of knowledge and life experience under her belt, Lights has returned to the UK.

With a major expansion and redesign to Manchester’s Piccadilly Station just across the road in some serious talks at the moment, the future of The Star And Garter venue at the time of writing is a little uncertain. However, should the worst come to fruition, which would be the pub being forced to shut for approximately three years and, as a result, effectively put it out of business, at least it can claim it hosted some up-and-coming big names just before they broke, and tonight’s headliners Moose Blood are likely to slide right into that category.

Following the tragic death of bassist and founding member Paul Gray back in 2010 and drummer and principle songwriter Joey Jordison leaving the fold in 2013, it seemed for a while that a fifth album or any notable continuation for Slipknot would only remain as a figment of imagination. Yet, fast-forward 5 years of mourning and grief for the loss of such a pinnacle member of the band along with recruiting some (currently) temporary, and not only do we have a fifth album, but now a huge touring campaign, and here in the UK it is our turn to prepare for hell.
