Rating:

Connecticut foursome A Will Away are relatively unknown on our British shores, but in America, however, they’re starting to make quite a name for themselves. Their first two EPs, 2013’s ‘Cold Weather’ and 2015’s ‘Bliss’, gained rave reviews from critics on both sides of the Atlantic, and gave them a solid foundation to build upon.

Label: Monster Party Records
Website: www.thisenergy.com
Facebook: www.facebook.com/thebandenergy
Twitter: www.twitter.com/thisenergy

Rating:

For more than ten years, Energy have been perfecting their sound, and, in that time, they’ve shared the stage with a number of well known names along with releasing two EPs and their debut album ‘Punch The Clock’ in 2008. They’ve created a sound not unfamiliar with US bands, mixing the introvert melancholy with more upbeat hooks and tunes.

Label: Unsigned
Website: None available
Facebook: www.facebook.com/provokeruk
Twitter: www.twitter.com/provokeruk

Rating:

South Coast newbies Provoker have just put out an EP, ‘The Long Defeat’. It’s a 5-track long assault on the ears from beginning-to-end. Hailing from the Portsmouth area, they certainly like to be heard, with a vocal sound like singing in the bath full to the brim with acid.

EP: Hometruths – Open Your Eyes

Release Date: March 3rd 2017
Label: CI Records
Website: None available
Facebook: www.facebook.com/hometruthsuk
Twitter: www.twitter.com/hometruthsuk

Rating:

Mancunian metalcore quintet Hometruths have dropped their much anticipated, politically charged EP, ‘Open Your Eyes’. At just over a quarter-of-an-hour long, this thing rushes by like a protest past an office window, hoping to deliver a brief, effective, and cohesive political message to any bystanders who happen to be glancing out. It’s a great record, spilling over with talented fury and boatloads of rhythm, all recorded with a curious low-fi quality.

ALBUM: Sam Duckworth – Kingdoms

Release Date: January 27th 2017
Label: Xtra Mile Recordings
Website: None available
Facebook: www.facebook.com/samduckworth1986
Twitter: www.twitter.com/forgetcape

Rating:

Sam Duckworth is a man who seemingly has an incredible creative ability to write and release songs scarily quickly. In 2016, he released two EPs, ‘Digital Ghettos’ and ‘Beaches Ain’t Shit’, and a full-length album, ‘Baby Boomers 2’. For most artists, this is 2-3 years worth of material, but Duckworth is an artist that doesn’t do things by half measures.

Release Date: February 17th 2017
Label: Earache Records
Website: www.danny.earache.com
Facebook: www.facebook.com/officialdannyworsnop
Twitter: www.twitter.com/dannyworsnop

Rating:

Danny Worsnop has released a country solo album. Yes, Danny Worsnop currently/previously (delete as applicable) of Asking Alexandria. The Yorkshire vocalist has found a new home in Nashville and is fulfilling his unexpected dream of becoming a country singer/songwriter with songs about all kinds of liquor on his solo debut, ‘The Long Road Home’, which is surprisingly catchy and fun, but completely unrelatable and alienating for the British rock crowd that have seen him in his previous adventures.

EP: Less Than Jake – Sound The Alarm

Release Date: February 3rd 2017
Label: Pure Noise Records
Website: www.lessthanjake.com
Facebook: www.facebook.com/lessthanjake
Twitter: www.twitter.com/lessthanjake

Rating:

From their origins in the early 90s, Less Than Jake have been delivering their take on the ska punk sound that fused the two sounds together. Formed in 1992, nearly 25 years of material has now been put out by the band, and their latest offering, ‘Sound The Alarm’, by no means distances itself from that recognisable sound, but reinforces the fact that they’re still producing the same quality that enabled them to build-up an impressive following around the world.

ALBUM: Decade – Pleasantries

Release Date: February 24th 2017
Label: Rude Records
Website: www.decadeofficial.co.uk
Facebook: www.facebook.com/decadeofficial
Twitter: www.twitter.com/decadeofficial

Rating:

After waiting four years since Decade‘s debut LP, ‘Good Luck’, you’d be forgiven for thinking Decade may have been no more. ‘Good Luck’ had the Bath-based quintet touring alongside the likes of Tonight Alive and The Used, but was it different enough to allow them to stand out from the vast range of pop-punk that we’re accustomed to? Admittedly, it wasn’t a certainty, but ‘Light Grenades’-esque Incubus lead single ‘Daisy May’ offered a flicker of hope.

ALBUM: WSTR – Red, Green Or Inbetween

Release Date: January 27th 2017
Label: No Sleep Records
Website: None available
Facebook: www.facebook.com/wstrband
Twitter: www.twitter.com/wstrband

Rating:

It’s been near enough impossible to ignore the monumental rise of WSTR, unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last year or so. The quintet from Liverpool have really risen to prominence over the last year and stamped themselves, along with Neck Deep, as the poster boys for UK pop-punk. The success of their debut EP, ‘SKRWD’, gave them scope to tour endlessly across the country.
