Anyone who’s spent some amount of time on MySpace – enough to know what a MySpace, or even an Internet celebrity is should have at least heard of who Jeffree Star is. For those of you who haven’t, Jeffree is one of the Internet’s most famous celebrities, even going as far as calling himself. Along with a fashion line, this fame also spawned him into a career in music… if you can call it that. Releasing his album just towards the end of 2009, Jeffree and co-headliners Brokencyde – also host to hostility for their music – are the forefront to their 2 DRUNK 2 FUCK tour.

A very underground band in their circuit, it seems more than fitting that Yashin are playing at a club called The Underground in Stoke. The Scottish boys may only have two EPs worth of material to work with and a new album on the horizon, but they’ve brought onto the show’s bill two local acts who are even deeper underground than the headliners themselves, as expected.

Who doesn’t enjoy a bit of comedy? It’s refreshing every now and then to have a band that doesn’t take themselves too seriously in what they sing and write about, and Bowling For Soup are one such band who’ve been doing that very trend for just over 15 years – surely a sign that they do it well. For their Party In Your Pants tour, they’ve brought along a few supporting acts who follow a similar fashion, and to do what they claim to do best: party!

A usual headlining tour, due to a number of different reasons, tends to have two support acts. During DevilDriver‘s October 2009 UK tour they’ve decided to stretch it out to four. Now, if you can do your maths right, that’s a total of five bands in one evening! The fact that all the bands on the bill are of the extremely heavy variety, this evening is not for radio-friendly trained ears, and isn’t too far from a mini-metalfest.

Hitting the UK in 2009, the Eastpak Antidote tour imports three international bands and one homegrown UK band in a 4 bash flurry of pop-punk, post-hardcore, and hard rock. Not quite on the scale of the Taste Of Chaos or Give It A Name tours, this tour still hosts a group of bands who may only be seen playing a show together at large musical festivals – so this oppurtunity shouldn’t be squandered or under appreciated.

Since the release of their third full-length ‘Intimacy’, Bloc Party have been touching more on the softer side of electro and dance, and feeding it into their soft indie rock style. Their latest endeavour ‘One More Chance’ is just a another product of such direction, and so the official and cleverly titled Bloctober tour sees the four-piece hitting many areas of the UK to end 2009 with a good bang.

Reggae metallers Skindred have not really been anywhere near ‘huge’ on the alternative music scene, though they’ve always had a presence strong enough to be recognised when mentioned. With a tour of many sold out dates across the UK, maybe even further recognition and acknowledgement is heading their way fast. Deserved considering the trouble the band have faced in the past with labels and such.

Download Festival comes along for yet another year, and the opening arena day welcomes a host of mainly nu-metal styled bands to the stage aswell as two reformed bands. This is the start of what is going to be one of the best weekends of the year!

It’s always nice coming across bands that haven’t really made it yet, but look like they’re getting the support and attention where they could very well hit it. The thought of being one of few people to say “I saw them when they were in tiny venues and barely no one knew them”. Baddies are one such hotly tipped band, and in The Sugarmill venue where there are about 30 to 40 people maximum, you may question just when the word about this lot is going to get around.

On the horizon sits the release of Welsh’s post-hardcore pack The Blackout‘s second full-length release, entitled very confidently ‘The Best In Town’. But then again, since when is confidence always been a bad thing, especially when delivered with a reason to be so confident? It’s up to the 6-piece to deliver the reason tonight.

Ever since their huge change of sound and style from their third album ‘Getting Away With Murder’ and onwards, Papa Roach have been one band that have lost a lot of respect and admiration – mainly from their fans of the debut ‘Infest’. Still, with five studio albums under their belts and still signed to a major lable, they soldier on with a tour promoting their latest effort, ‘Metamorphosis’. But, does this mean that as their music has arguably suffered, does that mean their live performance has too?
