Despite the unquestionable success that their last full-length ‘The Here And Now’ brought to Brighton metalcore outfit Architects, the more mainstream and radio friendly nature of the record polarised a lot of opinions within their fanbase. Now, with a new album with a lot more “balls” on the way, the band are set on a headline UK tour, revisiting some of the less acknowledged cities at more intimate venues. Tonight, it’s Liverpool’s rather small O2 Academy 2.

It’s crazy to think just how big the band You Me At Six are today in comparison with their young age, with vocalist Josh Francheschi being just a mere 21 years old. Breaking onto the scene with their debut album just five years ago, the band have made astonishing achievements, one of which most recently being the release of the first ever single for a rollercoaster ride, ‘The Swarm’. The crowd drawn into the first of two dates at Manchester’s O2 Apollo is just another testament to the band’s growing popularity.

First on the bill is Erik Chandler (****), the bassist of Bowling For Soup. For those of you not in the know, Erik has been working on a solo project and has recently released an EP, ‘Writing The Wrongs’. His songs are a breather from the pop-punk/rock vibe and follow a more country rock sound. His raspy cigarette-soaked voice provides the perfect tone to his reflective and sombre melodies, and he plays an excellent cover of The Lemonheads‘Rudderless’. An excellent start to an already flourishing career.

With tonight being only Touché Amoré‘s second ever performance in the city of Manchester, the first of which being over a year ago at an almost small pub sized venue, the UK fanbase behind this band has swelled tenfold. Now, on their first proper headline tour on British shores, it’s time to see what this increase in crowd size can do for their live performance.

Opening act Mojo Fury (****) give a thorough and entertaining performance. Sounding like a toned down Pulled Apart By Horses, their ambient indie rock entertains the crowd. Honestly, there isn’t much movement, but there rarely is at this point in the evening. Lead singer Michael Mormecha has a unique voice, one perfect for rock though, and belts out some captivating songs such as ‘To Comprehend’. A great band for sure and one that you should check out soon.

The Xcerts are now on round two with playing this gig. The first attempt landed with it being pulled through illness and now on the second attempt, the band once again fell ill from SXSW. However, this time they weren’t going to pull the gig and bringing along friends Flood Of Red and locals Switchboard Spectacular and Next Stop Atlanta for support.

Since the release of their debut album ‘City Of Vultures’ towards the end of last year, London metalcore mob Rise To Remain have been a fairly busy bunch, and sadly even recently suffered from the loss of two members leaving the band to pursue other things in their lives. However, a few months later they’re back on the road, new members equipped and ready to pick up where they left off since their last UK tour.

Deep in the dark underground room that is the Retro Bar, five highly pissed off bands are forced into a corner and made to play for our amusement. The results are somewhat spectacular as well as a tad disturbing. This was a night of hardcore/post-hardcore at its finest, with a group of the UK’s up-and-coming bands pushing their limits and proving their worth.

Still promoting their latest album ‘Time Of Your Life’ (released July 19th), so hopefully more people will be familiar with what it has to offer this time around.

It seems there’s no stopping Miss Aplin at the moment, with this being the 4th UK headline tour she has undergone in the last 16 months. At the tender age of 19, she is sickeningly talented and achieved so much more than your average teenager. Not only has she appeared on the prestigious BBC Radio 1 from time to time, but she has pretty much sold-out nearly every show on her tour. Things are looking pretty damn good for this young singer.

It’s fair to say that Attack Attack! have grown up a lot since their infamous crabcore beginnings from 2009′s video for ‘Stick Stickly’. Three albums into their career, the latest being this year’s ‘This Means War’, and the band are gradually maturing away from their original “scene” style, combining electro and metal, and becoming more of a metalcore band. A new promo tour of the UK however will see how their popularity has maintained.

With the recent release of their greatest hits album ‘Made In Germany 1995-2011′ and many rumours floating around claiming this tour to be one of Rammstein‘s last before they bid farewell, it’s fair to say the hype surrounding their possible last visit to the UK is high. At the Manchester date of the tour it’s no different, and the sold out show is a testament to our country’s love for the German metal outfit.
