Interviews

Making music that doesn’t stick to the conventional verse/chorus/verse structure is much harder than some may think, and incorporating a range of different sounds and various genres into the mix also makes for a hard to construct flurry. Those however who do manage to pull it off are rewarded with great results, and Glasgow-based Dreams & Empires are one of such bands, and whose self-titled 3-track EP is not only one conveying artistry, but is also available online completely free and legally too. We decided to get in touch with the boys for a little chat about how things are going so far since the EP release in December:

February 2011 brings the first visit to the UK from I See Stars, supporting pop-punk quartet We The Kings. With their second full-length album ‘The End Of The World Party’ also on the way in a few short weeks afterwards, we caught up with vocalist Devin Oliver to talk about the record, how it’s a step-up from debut ’3-D’, and what kind of party he’d throw if the end of the world was upon us:

Onto their first UK headline tour of 2011 aswell as the first UK headline tour to promote their latest record, ‘Blessed & Cursed’, Devil Sold His Soul are finally starting to build a bit of momentum with the release and make great efforts to get their name heard. We decided to catch up with them on the Manchester date of the tour, and see what’s happened since their last UK with Architects in Winter, the lowdown on bassist Iain Trotter‘s leaving, and what they hope the year has in store for them:

It’s been four years since Pierce The Veil last headed over to the UK, in support of The Blackout in Manchester’s relatively small venue, Academy 3. Now returning in support of A Day To Remember, the band are performing in a venue more than 5 times bigger than their last visit here. We decided to catch up with them whilst we could, and talked about their new album ‘Selfish Machines’, the meaning behind the title, their video shoot for ‘Caraphernelia’, and what they have planned for 2011:

Over a year on from the release of their debut record ‘Stand Up And Scream’, York-grown post-hardcore sextet Asking Alexandria have only just managed to set out on their first ever UK headline tour, odd for a band of their size hailing from Britain. With a new EP, remix album and full-length record just around the corner, we sat down and had a chat with bassist Sam Bettley about the upcoming releases, their upcoming music video for ‘A Prophecy’, and their schedule for 2011:

Moving from a more progressive and ambient style of their debut ‘Relativity’ to something much simpler and straight to the point with their eponymous album this year, Kentucky’s Emarosa are quickly growing to be one of the most respected and appreciated post-hardcore/alternative rock acts around today. With 2010 bringing the 6-piece such great attention and a mass increase in fans, DEAD PRESS! decided to catch up with the group and talked about their current December UK tour, updates on forthcoming b-sides and guest appearances, and whether or not they’re going to be releasing a music video in the near future…

Growing and growing as one of the most popular modern deathcore bands around to day, Suicide Silence are slowly but surely making a mark on the UK as strong as the one at their home in the US. With their promotion of second album ‘No Time To Bleed’ coming to an end, we decided to have a little talk to vocalist Mitch Lucker about appearing on the Saw VI soundtrack, the differences of playing in the US and the UK, progress on their third record, and his huge dislike for their ‘Disengage’ music video and its director…

Following what’s been a pretty great year for Leeds 4-piece Pulled Apart By Horses, the band are closing it all off with one last headline stint across the UK. We at DEAD PRESS! thought we’d catch up with the boys at their first ever show in Stoke at The Sugarmill, and talked about their debut album, their favourite music video they’ve shot so far, what it was like for them to support the likes of Glassjaw and Muse, and their working towards a new concept album about water:

Technical rock 4-piece InMe weren’t always so technical and advanced with their songs, look back at their first two albums ‘Overgrown Eden’ and ‘White Butterfly’ and you’ll notice a significant difference between their work back then and what they’re producing today. With their ‘Best Of…’ recently released they promoted with a tour playing all their past albums entirely on certain dates, we managed to get a hold of them in Manchester playing ‘White Butterfly’, and had a chat to them about their favourite album of theirs to play, how the idea of the tour came about, and what direction their fifth album will take them in…

Concept-driven progressive rockers Coheed & Cambria have been following a story with all their past releases, following two characters who are funnily enough called Coheed and the other Cambria. Their last effort ‘Year Of The Black Rainbow’ released earlier this year was the final installment in the main story of frontman Claudio Sanchez‘s Armory Wars, and so we thought we’d see what the future holds for the New York-based quartet. Bassist Michael Todd shared with us how he’s finding the current tour with Deftones, plans for the band perhaps throwing a festival in 2011, and his love for video games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero…

Claimed in his own words as a “terrible band name”, Job For A Cowboy drummer Jon ‘The Charn’ Rice had a little talk with us before the band’s show in Manchester during their November 2010 UK tour, and told us about the reason behind their goat character/mascot, his favourite music video they’ve created so far, his feelings about the chart position of most recent album ‘Ruination’, and the band’s plans of releasing an EP and album in 2011 too…

Naming themselves after the location of the infamous Jack The Ripper and his killings, Whitechapel are known as one of the heaviest young bands on the scene today. With their recent studio album ‘A New Era Of Corruption’ released earlier in the year reaching in the top 50 spots of the Billboard 200 charts, we decided to have a chat with guitarist Alex Wade during their support slot supporting Job For A Cowboy in Manchester, and asked him if they’ve ever visited the place they take their name from, why they utilise three guitarists, and his personal favourite album of theirs…
