Failsafe are a melodic rock band from Preston, who started bringing their sound to the UK back in 2005. Since the band began, they’ve released two albums; debut ‘What We Are Today’ in 2005 and also 2008′s ‘The Truth Is…’. Four years on, the band are back with their third studio album ‘Routines’.

Rating:

Birmingham’s Oceans Ate Alaska do a lot of things right with their debut release, ‘Into The Deep’. Some fantastic instrumental performances sees a refreshingly progressive edge flirt with their rather aggressive take on post-hardcore. Yet, there remains here some unfortunate melodic pitfalls which mean that the EP cannot be labelled as anything other than largely hit and miss.

Release Date: May 7th, 2012
Label: Rising Records
Website: www.silentdescent.com
Facebook: www.facebook.com/silentdescent
Twitter: www.twitter.com/silentdescent

Rating:

With an appearance at this year’s Download Festival rapidly approaching, Silent Descent, who were saluted by Metal Hammer as “The trance-metal juggernaut the world has been waiting for”, may be at a critical moment as a band. The band were named as Kerrang! Radio’s top unsigned band in April 2008 and have gone from strength to strength since their first release ‘Duplicity’ that same year. The band has played Download Festival a handful of times and have received plaudits for their extravagant live shows. They have maintained a loyal fan base without fully breaking into the mainstream.

Release Date: May 4th, 2012
Label: Goomba Music

Facebook: www.facebook.com/wykkedwytch.com
Twitter: www.twitter.com/wykkedwytch.com

Rating:

Going under the moniker of Wykked Wytch, one could be forgiven for making some snap judgements regarding this band’s sound. Connotations of the gothic, the operatic, perhaps the slightly melodramtic abound before a note of music is even heard, which makes listening to ‘The Ultimate Deception’ all the more rewarding as, although these elements may crop up more than briefly, this is a rather more savage release than may be expected.

Rating:

Touring relentlessly with the likes of Theory Of A Deadman and Jack’s Mannequin, Canadian pop-punk outfit Breaching Vista are quickly making a name for themselves across their home country. But, with the release of their debut full-length in the UK, will the same success be felt over this side of the pond?

Rating:

When someone tells me a band is shit, it pisses me off no end and I will always retort with “no, they’re not shit. They’re just not your kind of music, and everyone has different tastes and what not”. This review will make me look like a hypocrite and I don’t care. This album is everything that’s wrong with music at the moment. It’s a mindless collection of nothing songs with shit lyrics and god awful synths. “But Andy, it’s all just a bit of fun” I hear you say. No, this is not just a bit of fun. ‘Call Me Maybe’ is a bit of fun, ‘Sexy And I Know It’ is a bit of fun. This is just downright unforgivable.

Rating:

What do you get when you combine three angry Australians and ex-One Way System bassist, Gary Buckley? Well, it turns out that you get The Terraces. Buckley has put down his bass and taken vocal duties on this punk rock self-titled debut release and he sure does pack a hate-filled punch.

Rating:

Despite having four albums already under their belt and being formed way back in 2004, Headcharger haven’t permeated our radar until recently. Their latest album, ‘Slow Motion Disease’, is set to hit more countries than any of their previous efforts, but is this a worthwhile investment by the guys at XIII BIS Records?

Label: Unsigned

Rating:

Having announced their split and cutting back the tour to promote ‘Electric Picture Palace’, it was never known what to expect from Holy State‘s debut full-length album, despite them having an impressive 2009 EP under their belts. However, the band have emerged from the depths of the Leeds music scene with an unapologetic, urgent punk sound which catches the listener’s attention whilst remaining easy to listen to. The shouty, concise tracks contain spadefuls of punchy guitar chords and vocals tinged with aggression, giving ‘Electric Picture Palace’ barrels full of punk ethos.

Rating:

Hailing from Atlanta, Whores. are the love child of bands Black Mollies and Norma Jean, an intriguing marriage which led to the conception and birth of this sludgy, mucky noise-baby. The record sets off with disgusting feedback with crunching guitars and opens up into a solitary guitar riff, encapsulating the feel of the record right away. The tempo is very deliberate, perfect for slow head bobbing and gigantic melodies.

Label: Cooking Vinyl
Website: www.marilynmanson.com

Rating:

Over the past few years, notorious musician Marilyn Manson and what he once was appeared to have died. Once a man known for his controversial live performances and albums which would be both adored by his loyal fanbase and critically viewed by the media and concerned parents had become a thing of the past. His music had lost its fire in all aspects, resulting in 2007′s ‘Eat Me, Drink Me’ and 2009′s ‘The High End Of Low’ being his worst work to date which were mere shadows compared to any previous offering throughout his career.
