Hang The Bastard return in 2012 with their self-titled EP, released on TDON Records. The release came along with a special deluxe package, including a t-shirt and Ouija board; something that definitely enhances their reputation as one of the most evil of the UK hardcore bands out there today.

Rating:

With widespread acclaim greeting their debut release ‘Blueprint For A Better Time’, Above Them have certainly remained in the ones to watch catergory ever since. Although, with many labelling them as punk rockers, some may scoff at a slight leaning towards more polished, accessible terrorities on follow-up, ‘Are We A Danger To Ourselves?’.

Laudably raising money for a fantastic cause, Wrongpop have compiled a satisfyingly rich and diverse release in their funding raising efforts, showcasing not only the exciting talent florishing in the UK’s up and comers but also a commendable willingness of these bands to turn their craft to the backing of a profoundly worthy benefactor.

Release Date: February 28th, 2012
Label: Sumerian Records
Website: None available
Facebook: www.facebook.com/veilofmaya
Twitter: www.twitter.com/veilofmayaband

Rating:

With Sumerian Records being one the forefront purveyors of modern, heavy music, working most noteably with such recent heavy hitters as Asking Alexandria and Periphery, we go into listening to Veil Of Maya‘s latest offering with a certain benchmark of quality already in place. Fortunately, it becomes quickly apparent for those new to the band that their juddering, technical deathcore marks another impressive outifit to the Sumerian arsenal.

Release Date: February 28th, 2012
Label: Golden Axe
Website: www.pythiamusic.com
Facebook: www.facebook.com/pythia
Twitter: www.twitter.com/pythiafeed

Rating:

When you hear of a heavy metal band fronted by a woman with a powerful, almost operatic voice, there are a few bands that immediately get mentioned: Evanescence, Nightwish and Lacuna Coil instantly roll off the tongue. Pythia are the UK’s offering to this genre, making their way up that list through headlining slots at festivals such as Bloodstock and supporting the likes of Dragonforce later this year. Their second full-length album, ‘The Serpent’s Curse’, is only strengthening their case, showing off their incredible musical abilities and no doubt winning over more fans to the Pythian army.

Release Date: February 28th, 2012
Label: Panic Records
Website: None available
Facebook: www.facebook.com/humaana
Twitter: www.twitter.com/humaana

Rating:

Somewhat unknown indie rockers Humaana have been hard at work to produce this fine EP, ‘Comfort’. Hailing from the almighty US of A, they have a steep slope to climb in order to make it as a band. As well as competing with millions of other artists just to get signed, they also have produce a record that is unique enough for them to stand out, yet not too different to avoid scaring people off (for the general public are morons and do not like change, I know, I am one of them).

Release Date: February 28th, 2012
Label: Unsigned

Facebook: www.facebook.com/myhearttofear
Twitter: www.twitter.com/myhearttofear

Rating:

The transition to melodic metalcore isn’t something which comes quietly or without a bang, and
My Heart To Fear show exactly how it’s done on full-length album, ‘Into The Maelstrom’. The young Christian band from Williamsport, USA took their band name from verse two of the religious song ‘Amazing Grace’ (“It was grace that taught my heart to fear”), and the five men that make up this band are confident in their relationship with God and this is reflected within their music. But, don’t go thinking that this is an all God band who don’t know how to rock, because their monstrous titan of an album will blast that thought into thousands of tiny pieces.

Release Date: February 27th, 2012
Label: Sony Records
Website: www.meatloaf.net
Facebook: www.facebook.com/meatloaf
Twitter: www.twitter.com/realmeatloaf

Rating:

One of the most irritating things about Meat Loaf is the fact he doesn’t write his own songs, and his latest work on ‘Hell In A Handbasket’ is just another typical Loaf album with over powering vocals and jazzy pianos. A showman like Meat Loaf always offers unstoppable ballads that catch your breath, but with songs such as ‘The Giving Tree’ and ‘All Of Me’, they sound like theatre music rather than the generic stadium rock anthems that made him to credible.

Rating:

Cambridge bred rock group Twelve Clay Feet have burst onto the music scene with their debut studio album, ‘Totem Bells’, on the back of their most recent UK tour. It appears the band isn’t just another rock quartet that will eventually get lost in my pile of an ever growing music library, this being due to the fact I’ve been presented with pleasantly surprising echoes of Ray LaMontagne, Queens Of The Stone Age and 30 Seconds To Mars.

Rating:

In aid of Cheltenham based charity WellChild, ‘This Is A Popscene #1′ is primarily a laudable compliation seeking to raise funds for an important and utterly deserving cause. Yet, as if this motive weren’t merit enough, this release also proves to bring together a succession of joyously upbeat tracks which can help to ease perhaps even the most grievous of troubles.

Release Date: February 27th, 2012
Label: Xtra Mile Recordings
Website: www.fightingfiction.com
Facebook: www.facebook.com/fightingfiction
Twitter: www.twitter.com/fightingfiction

Rating:

Seeming as they’re apparently one of the bands that’ll make a name for themselves this year, a phrase that’s thrown about and applied to far too many bands, you hope that Fighting Fiction‘s self-titled debut album will prove they’re worth the hype. However, and sadly, it’s something of a mixed bag. At times, it’s good – although the band do lean heavily on bands that they take influence from, such as The King Blues and older punk bands such as The Clash – and you find yourself getting into the music, but then just as quickly you’re put off by the next track that’s generic, clichéd and, in all honesty, should be nowhere near a band who’ve developed as much hype as these guys.

Rating:

When Giants Collide hail from Yorkshire, Leeds and Bradford specifically. Their debut EP, ‘No One Is Safe’, is a self-released effort from the British outfit. Is this heavy offering going to help in the reigniting of the UK metal scene in 2012, or will it just fall by the wayside alongside many of the other metal bands that have slowly just petered out of recent?
