December 12th, 2017
We’re putting the spotlight on the hottest and most exciting new bands around with our Introducing feature, ready to highlight the artists with the biggest potential to make an impact on their scene.
Although Hail The Sun have been around since 2009 and had a whole bunch of releases, this month sees their first ever tour in the UK. The Californian prog rock band join Silverstein on the road across the country in support of their new EP ‘Secret Wars’ which drummer and singer Donovan Melero said was to “acknowledge all those battles that are kept behind closed doors. There may always be a force working against us, by our chemistry, or by those who supposedly have the public’s best interest in mind.” Catch up with Hail The Sun with our handy introducing guide.

WHAT THE BAND SAY:
DP!: How would you describe yourselves to someone who has never heard Hail The Sun before?
Donovan Melero: Some people in this world, like myself, love the smell of skunk. There aren’t many, but the ones who do… well, we really like it. Hail The Sun is like the skunk smell.
DP!: How did the band form?
Donovan: Aric and I have been jamming together since sixth grade, well over a decade. We met Shane and John when we went to California State University of Chico, eight hours from home. We all jammed together, and the glove just fit.
DP!: What plans do you have for the future?
Donovan: In five years, no matter where we are in our career, we are all disbanding and enrolling in culinary school.
DP!:Which new bands are you listening to right now?
Donovan: Icarus the Owl, Capstan, GROVES, Andres to name a few.
DP!:Which bands do you aspire to and why?
Donovan: The Mars Volta, because they are fucking legends.
DP!:What’s the stand out moment in your career so far?
Donovan: Signing to Equal Vision Record and selling out the Roxy in Hollywood on a full album play.
