GETTING INTO: Pure Noise Records, As Chosen By Seaway

Pure Noise Records seem to have all the best bands. Whether you like your hardcore in the shape of Stick To Your Guns and Vanna, punk with the likes of Less Than Jake and Masked Intruder, or pop-punk with The Story So Far and Boston Manor, the Californian label will have you sorted. Since 2014, Canadian pop-punk sensations Seaway joined the Pure Noise family and have just released their third full-length record ‘Vacation’. To celebrate its arrival, the guys have picked out their favourite records from the label over the years.

THE AMERICAN SCENE – HAZE

As Chosen By Ryan

‘Haze’ is an amazing record that should have been way bigger than it was. I think it was insanely ahead of its time. A lot of bands today are trying to achieve what The American Scene had, but they did it 3 years ago. Super chill, but filled with hooks.

COUNTERPARTS – YOU’RE NOT YOU ANYMORE

As Chosen By Patrick

This record is Counterparts‘ best release to date. Bangers start to finish. It’s a versatile collection of tasty guitar licks and beefy breakdowns. Brendan‘s vocals? Utter perfection. His delivery is powerful, yet delicate and each song is filled with hooks that will have listeners saying, “excuse me what? That part was really freaking cool.” Definitely album of the year material right after ‘Vacation’ by Seaway.

SIGHTS AND SOUNDS – SILVER DOOR

As Chosen By Andrew

A side project from Andrew Neufeld of Comeback Kid, this EP is filled with dark and spacey rock n’ roll riffs and huge choruses. This band doesn’t really do much besides a few shows here and there but I still listen to this record all time.

LIVING WITH LIONS – SOME OF MY FRIENDS APPEAR DEAD TO ME

As Chosen By Andrew

Being from Canada, these guys were a big influence on Seaway when we first started out. They were pretty much the only Canadian pop punk band out there touring and killing it at the time. This EP features their third vocalist in as many records but this is probably my favourite release by them. Hope to hear more new music soon.

TROUBLED COAST – I’VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT LEAVING YOU

As Chosen By Andrew

This was one of Pure Noise‘s first releases and one of its best in my opinion. I’m not usually into spoken word stuff but these guys meshed that with massive choruses and great riffs, resulting in some really cool songwriting. Listened to this all the time when I was in University. They released a full length after this and then broke up. It’s a shame because I feel like these guys could have been pretty big. We later became good friends with their guitarist, Brandon. He’s a legend.
