EP: Cursed Earth – Cycles Of Grief, Volume I: Growth
October 2nd, 2017
Hey, you! Are you a fan of hardcore? Have you heard of Australian band, Cursed Earth? Well, if not, then you’re going to very soon. Their new EP, ‘Cycles Of Grief, Vol. 1: Growth’, is one of the most no nonsense, heavy hitting records of the year so far. These five tracks will leave you wanting more and more.
The EP opens up with ‘War March’, which starts with layers of reverberated guitars before it drops us into the classic chuggy hardcore that we’re all familiar with. Admittedly, it’s more of a drawn out breakdown than an actual song, but it takes you straight into ‘Broken’, and, without any hesitation you get thrown into the thick of it.
‘Broken’ greets us with blast beats galore, followed by one of the largest breakdowns on the EP. Cursed Earth certainly aren’t messing around with this track, doing all of this in the space of one and half minutes.
The biggest stand-out cut here is undoubtedly ‘Sanctioned Violence’. With a name like that, you’d expect nothing more than a grade A hardcore banger, and that’s exactly what you get. It’s got the perfect mixture of brutality and melody, so it’s not just a chuggy, screamy mess.
Final track ‘Violated’ is a classic down-tempo ‘beat everyone up’ track. It starts off much like the predecessing numbers, but finishes with a sludgy, proper down-tempo beat down that could easily stand toe-to-toe and rival any Knocked Loose track you could name.
With more volumes impending, never have we ever wanted to be sucked into the dreaded cycles of grief more.
