TRACK-BY-TRACK: The One Hundred – Chaos + Bliss
June 27th, 2017
No doubt you’ve heard the rumblings of London nu-metal/grime crossover band The One Hundred from their brilliant debut EP, ‘Subculture’, or their outings at Sonisphere, Download, Reading & Leeds, and even a support slot with Mötley Crüe and Alice Cooper.
The barrier breakers have just released their first full-length in ‘Chaos + Bliss’ and the band are getting ready for 2000 Trees and an ambitious slot at Bloodstock, so we caught up with diverse vocalist Jacob Field who gave us a track-by-track rundown of the new record to get it to know it better.
I wrote this song about people that sit on the ass with no motivation, and expect to be gifted by the world. It kinda infuriates me.
People that jump ship to remain relevant, they pretend to live a fake lifestyle so they seem current and “in fashion”. Nah.
We used subtle gaming references as a metaphor to describe how you’ve got to be different to create an impact, and then you’ve got to believe in what you do.
04.) DARK MATTERS
I wrote this song about Final Fantasy VII. It revolves around the story of Cloud and Sephiroth, which reflects light vs. dark and good vs. evil.
05.) FAKE EYES
Everyone wants to know everyone’s business. People love gossip and try to befriend you just to get involved. I see straight through you.
06.) HAND OF SCIENCE
There was a The Walking Dead comic issue where they discuss the big debate: Science vs. Religion. It intrigued me, and I wanted to explore this with my own views and opinions.
The world would rather care about the newest iOS update than real problems. I made a fake town – ‘Boomtown’ – in which everyone cares about money and fashion, completely unaware of the social and moral problems that are attached.
Sometimes you feel like the world is always against you, and, like a card game, you have to gamble and risk to hope for potential better things, but in reality it’s down to you as a person to change and overcome your own future.
Attack On Titan is such a rad manga and TV show. There;s a specific episode in which the Survey corps are hiding in the trees and have to strategically plan their next moves, or they face obvious demise. It sparked my nerd button, and I had to write a song, ‘Who We Are Now’. Weirdly, I wrote this song before ‘Breed’ (which featured on our ‘Subculture’ EP), and, as cliché as it is, it’s just me expressing my passion for music and our gratitude to our friends and families for supporting us through when we were younger in local bands. We appreciate it.
10.) CHAOS AND BLISS
We all have inner demons or inner thoughts, which always makes me curious to delve into and understand. I’d love to know why we sometimes speak to ourselves almost as reassurance in certain situations. It’s weird.
“I’ve got an opinion, I’m always right”; these lyrics sum up my sarcasm and attitude towards people that believe that they’re always correct. No, you’re not. It’s an opinion, which is someone’s beliefs and thoughts. It’s neither right or wrong, hence why it’s an opinion.
