EP: Miss Vincent – Somewhere Else
June 14th, 2017
‘Somewhere Else’ is the latest offering from Southampton based punk rockers, Miss Vincent, the follow-up return to 2015’s ‘Reasons Not To Sleep’. It’s a short but sweet affair, with each track bringing its far share of fast-pace and emotional content.
The tracks themselves, whilst having somewhat upbeat instrumentals, carry some fairly deep lyrics, a lot of which appear to be talking about a former relationship and an ex within the narrative. This is most prevalent on the appropriately named track ‘The Lovers’, in which the lyrics are talking from the perspective of a lover wanting their ex back, and on ‘Lost And Forgotten’, the lyrics are dealing with the fact that again he wants her back whilst carrying on looking at the photographs that he’s kept of them together. Relatable topics and subject points that can really hit home.
Though of course there’s a level of pain portrayed in the lyrics, considering their subject matter, it’s also showcased via the channels of the vocal work and the overall production of the pieces.
Ultimately, ‘Somewhere Else’ is an emotional rollercoaster with so many moments that are relatable on so many levels, for both things that may have already happened in the listener’s life in the past, recently, or perhaps even are happening right now.
The songwriting and musicianship is there in spades, and sees notable improvement from their older work. Miss Vincent will be a band to keep a closer watch on in the future.
