WHAT THE BAND SAY:
DP!: How would you describe yourselves to someone who has never heard Weirds before?
Weirds: Dark, Heavy, Psychedelic.
DP!: How did the band form?
Weirds: We’ve been playing music together since we were 15/16 years old and all went to the same school. It started during lunch times where we, looking back, probably really pissed of all of the music department and anyone trying to have a fucking clarinet lesson or whatever haha!
DP!:What plans do you have for the future?
Weirds: Short term, we’re touring pretty extensively and have a busy festival season coming up so we’re excited about that! In the long term, just to keep making music together and keep playing as many shows as possible. It’s all we know.
DP!:Which new bands are you listening to right now?
Weirds: We all listen to a bunch of different types of music. There’s a real mix. Collectively though I’d say we’ve all been listening to a lot of Danny Brown, Electric Wizard and Josefin Ohrn + The Liberation. We’re on tour with The Wytches at the minute who are another band we’ve all been listening to so it’s great to get to see them play every night!
DP!:Which bands do you aspire to and why?
Weirds: There’s definitely bands we really respect but I wouldn’t say there’s anyone in particular we aspire to. There are no rules in music so to try and achieve something someone else has or the path they took to achieve it would be pointless, we just do what we do and hopefully people will like it!
DP!:What’s the stand out moment in your career so far?
Weirds: It has to be the whole album process, from recording it to signing with Alcopop! and everything that comes with it. The shows have really started to go off and there’s a whole urgency about it building up, we’re pumped to get it out and show people what we’ve done with ‘Swarmculture’.
