FEATURE: Less Than Jake’s Top 5 Drinking Songs!
September 26th, 2016
Ska punk legends Less Than Jake are returning to our shores soon for the inaugural ‘Fireball – Fuelling The Fire Tour’, along with home favourites The Skints, Mexican inspired Mariachi El Bronx, and a host of others for what’s sure to be the most fun you have at a show this year.
To celebrate, we got Less Than Jake‘s saxophonist Peter ‘JR’ Wasilewski to delve into their extensive back catalogue and come up with their Top 5 Drinking Songs, and which tipple to enjoy while listening to each.
Please be aware that, whilst this article is about drinking songs, it is important to drink responsibly. You can head to Drink Aware (here) for more information. Oh, and don’t be one of those idiots that drinks and drives.
5.) HARVEY WALLBANGER
Taken from ‘Greetings & Salutations’
“Blowing up all the bars everybody drinks for free!” How could this not make the list? Even though it’s a b-side, this song is about nothing but getting wasted and hanging out at the bar all while drinking a couple drinks, one of which no one really drinks anymore.
A Harvey Wallbanger (duh!)
4.) HOW’S MY DRIVING, DOUG HASTINGS?
Taken from ‘Losing Streak’
Nothing like drinking and driving! Well, not really. But, whenever we play this song, I can’t help but notice beer cans flying in the air and people dancing their asses off. “RIGHT!”
A can of beer
3.) THE SCIENCE OF SELLING YOURSELF SHORT
Taken from ‘Anthem’
This song is always akin to being at the beach. Laying lazy in the sunshine while sipping on a couple of Mai Tais and just singing along. It always makes me smile when I see people smiling and singing along to this song.
2.) ALL MY BEST FRIENDS ARE METALHEADS
Taken from ‘Hello Rockview’
I’m pretty sure this song is our most played at dance clubs, so by the time that it’s played people are usually pretty pissed up. Hopefully they dance and try to hook up, not circle pit, but hey. “You’re one in a crowd and paranoid of every sound”.
A shot of Fireball!
1.) PLASTIC CUP POLITICS
Taken from ‘Anthem’
“So drop your empty cups, and clear your clouded heads…”
Anything, as long as it’s in a red plastic cup
