BANDS THAT INSPIRE: Citizen Zero
June 23rd, 2016
Bands are always on the listen out for creative ideas and influences, and all kind of inspiration that they can incorporate into the music that they make. Everyone has a story of when they listened to that record that changed their life and in a lot of cases – why they decided to start to pick up an instrument. We’re setting out to talk to your favourite bands about who inspires what they do and what goes into their music.
Detroit newcomers Citizen Zero have had a huge 2016 already, brushing shoulders with the biggest names in rock and metal while playing huge US festivals Rock On The Range and Carolina Rebellion. The grunge inspired rock n’ roll band are gearing up for the release of their debut full length ‘State Of Mind’ in August, and we caught up with lead guitarist Sammy Boller to find out the albums that influenced him and the band when writing the record.
VAN HALEN – VAN HALEN
This record made us pick up instruments for the first time. We ended up getting to live out our dream of being Van Halen last year at the Crofoot Ballroom, Pontiac for their annual Halloween show ‘Creepy Cheapy’. We played an entire set of VH and played ‘You Really Got Me’, ‘Runnin’ With The Devil’, ‘Eruption’, and ‘Ain’t Talkin Bout Love’ from this record.
GUNS N ROSES – APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION
This is arguably our favorite hard rock album of all time. Amazing riffs and attitude from beginning to end. Long live the original GnR.
STONE TEMPLE PILOTS – CORE
The record that started it all for us. We got to play with Scott Weiland a few weeks before he passed and he played several songs from this album. Scott Weiland forever!
VELVET REVOLVER – CONTRABAND
Slash and Scott Weiland forming this band was one of the best things that happened to us during our childhood. ‘Fall to Pieces’ is one of the best ballads Slash ever wrote. We still jam on ‘Sucker Train Blues’ at practice.
KINGS X – DOGMAN
One of the most underrated bands and albums of all time. The musicianship on this record is insane and was so ahead of it’s time.
