TRACK-BY-TRACK: Lock & Key – Peaceless
April 3rd, 2016
Hardcore noise makers Lock & Key have finally come round to release their debut album and ‘Peaceless’ is a fast, chaotic and strong start to the career of the British band. They explore personal motivation, productivity and being outcast, but don’t take our word for it – check out what the band had to say about each track on the album.
This is a song about being disgusted by someone’s actions, and not understanding why someone can act in such a manner. It’s mostly focused on certain situations being caused by people trying to stop your productivity but not letting it get the better of you.
02.) BURNING BRIDGES
This is about cutting ties with someone due to their actions. It’s a song that’s very pent up with bitterness that is very direct and sincere.
03.) UNCLEAR STATE OF MIND
This is about being caught in an endless cycle of repetition that seems to drag you down and demotivate you. It’s about having nowhere to turn to when problems in your life get on top of you.
04.) BURNT OUT
This is about being drained, having lack of energy but pushing forward through it all and repeating the benefits of persevering. The song can seem very negative on the surface, but it’s focusing on being strong regardless of all the things that are thrown at us.
05.) NEVER ENDER
It’s about feeling lost, like you’re wasting your time on things that don’t deserve your focus and energy. It’s about procrastinating and being counter productive and how when you get caught in this cycle it’s never ending.
06.) NO JUSTICE
The title couldn’t be any more direct if I tried. The song is about seeing through the things that people say and do, and seeing them for who they truly are. It’s about false friendships and people that use the vulnerable people around them. “You suffocate the weak with a front of who you claim to be” is the lyric that best sums up all of this.
07.) NO ACCEPTANCE
This song, along with many others on the record, was written during a period where we received a lot of backlash from certain people within the UK underground scene. It’s about how we were outcast and not accepted. The song itself caused great controversy when it was released, and it’s a song I have no regrets in writing.
08.) TURN YOUR BACK ON ME
This is a song about how friendship can come and go no matter how much you think it can’t. It’s focusing on a friendship that passed some years ago.
This song is focusing on people that seem to just take things without giving anything back. It’s about how humanity will constantly take from everything around them until there’s nothing left for anyone.
10.) DEAD PRAYERS
By far our most melodic track off the album, and a great finale to ‘Peaceless’. It’s very much in the vein of previous songs on the album. Focusing on my pessimistic thought process behind things and how they sometimes can get the better of me.
