Though they have shared the stage with the likes of Funeral For A Friend, Harlow based alternative rock outfit The Worldonfire keep things low key while simultaneously appearing alongside more widespread acts. ‘…Trust Someone’ celebrates everything that the band is and what it wants to be, from progressive guitars to nods toward influential artists.

At a limited five-track list, it’s difficult to absorb any substance from this EP. Though, it must be said that The Worldonfire waste little time in getting down to business when it comes to it, demonstrating a willingness to inject energy and edge to their sound.

‘Something New’ showcases the band at their most vibrant, leading from the back with tenacious drum fills and a time signature which gives the guitars room to bring the track to the heavy depths which probably won the ears of Funeral For A Friend. The EP’s title-track, on the other hand, portrays the band writing hooks and dealing them out at will while keeping the track at a tempo that keeps the record in tune and flow.

The band not only has progressive ability at their fingertips, but they have an appreciation of where it comes from. But even if this is not intentional, it ought to be. ‘Sway’ is layered with thick guitar tones, a distant melodic lead and an underlying melancholy, which feels like a nod in the direction of Deftones, or even Radiohead. Again, if it’s not, then it ought to be.

The Worldonfire have originality and ability. This much is true. But this record falls short of showing us what else the band can do. Though that may also be true, it shouldn’t matter too much. If The Worldonfire stick with their ethos, we will see much more of them and more material as a result.
