TOP 10 ALBUMS OF 2014!

Another 12 months, another plethora of albums that have been providing us with aural pleasure for the whole year. With literally hundreds of albums flooding into our email inboxes, being shared over the web and through our doors to listen to, this part of the year is no easy task for any us.

However, we put our brave faces on, put our thinking caps on, knuckled down, pulled all of our opinions together and managed to finalise what are our absolute top 10 albums of 2014. Take a look below at what we thought has made 2014 such a fantastic year for music and undoubtedly has made it an arduous task for whatever 2015 has in store for us to even match up to, nevermind top:

DEAD PRESS! TOP 10:

10.) Ed Sheeran – ‘X’

Rating:

What we said about it:
“There’s a reason Ed Sheeran has had a meteoric rise to fame. It’s not because his genre is all the rage at the minute, and it’s not because he’s playing off of a gimmick. The man is genuinely talented and deserves all of the success that he earns.”

09.) La Dispute – ‘Rooms Of The House’

Rating:

What we said about it:
“Explosive, delicate, intelligently put together and with a thrillingly melancholic marrow at his core, the towering layers and wholly earnest nature of the record may come across as slightly daunting, yet it’s the beauty of ‘Rooms Of The House’ that’s able to leave us both exhausted and captivated.”

08.) Animals As Leaders – ‘The Joy Of Motion’

Rating:

What we said about it:
“Overall, ‘The Joy Of Motion’ is a magnificent technical/progressive metal and clearly has two of the best guitarists that the world has to offer.”

07.) Behemoth – ‘The Satanist’

Rating:

What we said about it:
“We leave ‘The Satanist’ musing on the thought that perhaps only after going to Hell and back could a band turn in a record so invested in both a life embracing courage and a unhallowed, godless essence.”

06.) Bury Tomorrow – ‘Runes’

Rating:

What we said about it:
“Fine tuning, sharpening and polishing, this is a release which, through embracing the explosive power of metalcore done well, is inevitably bound to catapult Bury Tomorrow into the stratosphere.”

You can read the full review here.

05.) Issues – ‘Issues’

Rating:

What we said about it:
“Issues pick-up from where ‘Black Diamonds’ left off perfectly and deliver a 12-track record that continues to channel almost equal proportions of post-hardcore as they do pop and R&B.”

You can read the full review here.

04.) Moose Blood – ‘I’ll Keep You In Mind, From Time To Time’

Rating:

What we said about it:
“Although ‘I’ll Keep You In Mind…’ is excellent from the first line, the thoughtfulness and intelligence of Moose Blood‘s craft runs deep into the fourth and fifth spins of the record as it sinks into whichever part of your brain holds all the memories in it.”

You can read the full review here.

03.) Architects – ‘Lost Forever // Lost Together’

Rating:

What we said about it:
“Six albums in, and Architects prove that they still have so much to give, standing head and shoulders above many of their peers. ‘Lost Forever // Lost Together’ is relentless, emotionally charged, at times epic and, more importantly, worthy of being the band’s flagship record.”

You can read the full review here.

02.) Marmozets – ‘The Weird And Wonderful Marmozets’

Rating:

What we said about it:
“This is a record which positively bleeds charm and is awash with ideas. Marmozets are truly something special, and have unequivocally staked their claim to lead the rock revolution with this modern classic.”

01.) Every Time I Die – ‘From Parts Unknown’

Rating:

What we said about it:
“In review terms, this album ticks all the right boxes, steals the list from you, write dozens more, ticks those too, then sets the list on fire and stabs you in the neck with the pen. ‘From Parts Unknown’ is the essential listen of 2014 and candidate number one for album of the year.”
