INTERVIEW: Red Bull Studios Live At Download – Top 5 (07/04/2014 – 13/04/2014)

As part of this year’s Red Bull Studios Live at Download opportunity, which offers a small selection of some up-and-coming unsigned bands to perform at this year’s prestigous Download Festival weekend, we’re going to be bringing you some quick interviews with each week’s Top 5 in the voting charts. They’ll be giving you an insight into what they’re all about, why you should check them out and how it feels to be a part of the opportunity.

Week two’s results are upon us now, and you can see the week’s top five listed below, followed by each of their respective interviews.
1.) They Say Fall
2.) Breathe In The Silence
3.) Adelphia
4.) A New Day
5.) Bullets Over Broadway

They Say Fall

DP!: You’re in the top 5 for the second week running, how does it feel to be on top in an opportunity that features hundreds of bands from across the UK?
Kehn: It goes without saying that we’re incredibly appreciative of the effort everyone has made for us. When we entered this opportunity, we could have never comprehended that we would make it to the top five, let alone first! We’re truly grateful for the support.

DP!: When it comes to the judging stages, what do you think is going to make you stand out from the shortlist to potentially be picked to play this year’s Download Festival?
Kyle: ‘Poseidon’ really captures the approach we take when writing our music. We don’t allow ourselves to be restricted by boundaries, or genres. We love music. I hope the judges see that.

DP!: If there was one other festival you were offered to play, either in the UK or overseas, which one would you want perform at and why?
Brad: I think it’d have to be the answer I’d expect most bands to say, and that’s doing the full run of the Vans Warped Tour in America. I really want to experience just how hot some of those car park dates get.

Breathe In The Silence

DP!: You’re in the top 5 for the second week running, how does it feel to be on top in an opportunity that features hundreds of bands from across the UK?
BITS: It’s totally overwhelming. To be able to stay within the top 5 from the very start of the competition has been mind blowing, and we simply can’t thank everyone enough.

DP!: With another week’s results coming up fast, what do you think your chances are to be in the top 5 for a total of 3 weeks?
BITS: I think we feel confident, but it’s not over ’til it’s over. Only then can we relax and say we’ve done all that we could.

DP!: When it comes to the judging stages, what do you think is going to make you stand out from the shortlist to potentially be picked to play this year’s Download Festival?
BITS: I think we’re quite a diverse band, so we’ll appeal to people who enjoy the clean vocals and lighter side of music, but also we have the heavier side of things. Hopefully this will catch the judges’ attention.

Adelphia

MUSIC VIDEO: Lost At Sea (watch)

DP!: You’re in the top 5 for the second week running, how does it feel to be on top in an opportunity that features hundreds of bands from across the UK?
A: It’s an awesome feeling. To say how long we’ve been together as a band, the level of support we have from our fans is overwhelming. We’re in a very lucky position.

DP!: If there was one other festival you were offered to play, either in the UK or overseas, which one would you want perform at and why?
A: Definitely the Vans Warped Tour in the US. For me, it would just legitimise everything we’ve done as a band. All of our favorite bands have played Warped, and to have the opportunity to do the same would be incredible.

DP!: Do you have any more words for your fans and supporters thus far?
A: Thank you so much for all the support you’ve given us. It’s crazy how much dedication we’ve seen put into this opportunity and our band. It’s insane to see something that started out as an idea turn into something this big.

A New Day

MUSIC VIDEO: Boyfriend (watch)

DP!: You’re the only band who’ve managed to break into this week’s Top 5 who hadn’t already made it to the top of the crop last week, how does that feel?
AND: It’s amazing. When entering this opportunity, we didn’t think that we would be this close to the top. It’s definitely exposed people to us, and the support we’ve been receiving is outstanding.

DP!: Can you give us a brief history into how you guys have formed and come to be where you are today?
AND: Scott and Glen have always played music together, they met Chris through friends, and Sam and Scott are brothers. It just seemed natural for us to form a band together when we all love music, and we all seem to be on the same page when it comes to songwriting. Since forming, we’ve released an EP on iTunes, ‘Now It’s Our Turn’, and have gigged as regularly as we can. We’re currently in the mix of making our second EP.

DP!: You’re going to be new to a lot of people, how would you best describe your sound?
AND: Big drums, fast guitar melodies, a catchy rhythm and lyrics made to be sung along to. Essentially, pop-rock with an Essex accent.

Bullets Over Broadway

MUSIC VIDEO: Until Death Do Us Part (watch)

DP!: You’re in the top 5 for the second week running, how does it feel to be on top in an opportunity that features hundreds of bands from across the UK?
BOB: We’re stoked that the buzz is still going. We have some great support evidently, which is incredibly flattering. We’ve found that people have heard of us through the opportunity too when we’re out and about.

DP!: With another week’s results coming up fast, what do you think your chances are to be in the top 5 for a total of 3 weeks?
BOB: The final week will be very competitive, with lots of bands really pushing it hard. We’re just gonna be doing what we’ve done the whole way through. If we can place in the top 5 then that would be absolutely amazing but, to be honest, we’re flattered enough with how much people have got behind us.

DP!: When it comes to the judging stages, what do you think is going to make you stand out from the shortlist to potentially be picked to play this year’s Download Festival?
BOB: We’re a little different from every band on the scene, in the sense that we don’t really know all that much about what’s going on with it. We don’t really listen to the genre of music we play and certainly don’t know the norms of the genre when it comes to performance. This means that generally speaking we have a ‘no fucks given’ attitude to everything we do which makes for a pretty cool performance aspect to our band.

We’ll be back once again next week for one final installment of quick Q&As with the Top 5 bands in the charts, so make sure you don’t miss it.
