The dance scene has become slowly more accepted by the rock community in recent years, from the rock/drum ‘n’ bass mixing of Pendulum and the synth tinging of Enter Shikari right up to recent dubstep superstar Skrillex (aka, former From First To Last vocalist Sonny Moore). One act fitting into the aforementioned is certainly Chase & Status, performing at such rock/metal driven events like Download Festival.
Though the vibe is somewhat different in a live setting to that of a rock/metal/punk act, Chase & Status shows still deliver a similar level of energy and intensity, and if you’ve not experienced it for yourself then the closest you can get to it – other than buying a ticket and attending one, of course – is their live DVD, ‘Live At Brixton Academy’.
Obviously, you won’t get involved with the full experience sat in your living room than you would at an actual show, but the amount of sweat and bounce throughout the DVD is enough to encourage you to try and recreate it as best as possible at home. All the classics are there from ‘End Credits’ and ‘The Hypest Hype’ right up to ‘Eastern Jam’. The band’s MC Rage manages to command the crowd and make up well for one of the low points of their live shows – their guest collaborations not making an appearance themselves.
The tour documentary alongside the main set component of the DVD is worth watching too, bringing an insight some of you may be less familiar with in terms of touring life. What’s more, you can always whack on the music videos that have been shoved on there too.
Not half as good as actually going to a shows, but it’s definitely the next best thing. Chase & Status‘ ‘Live At Brixton Academy’ DVD is worth investing in for any fans of the duo, the genre, those wanting to relive the experience or those who want to know what’s in store for them if they do.
