One thing that Slam Dunk Festival has managed to do year after year is introduce band new overseas bands to the UK audience that otherwise might not have been heard before, at least not in the near future. One of these bands playing this year’s festival is Los Angeles rockers It Boys!, who’ll be making their UK debut at these shows. We spoke with frontman Matt Cutt to talk about what they’re expecting, why we should catch their set and more:
DP!: How are you guys looking forward to playing this year’s Slam Dunk Festival?
Matt: We couldn’t be more excited to play not only in the UK, but also the famous Slam Dunk Festival. We’re also stoked on seeing Taking Back Sunday as they’ve been a favourite band whilst growing up.
DP!: This year has began catering towards more of a heavier audience with the line-up, do you think that’s going to affect the vibe of the festival?
Matt: I don’t think so. We played the Vans Warped Tour last year which was surrounded
by heavy bands and we still got an amazing response. Give us a stage and people to perform for, and we’re in.
DP!: It’s fair to say that you’re one of the lesser known bands on this year’s Slam Dunk bill. What are your expectations of the festival?
Matt: I’d like to think of it as a rainier Vans Warped Tour. Honestly, we actually have no clue what to expect. Regardless, we’re ready to have a great time in the UK.
DP!: For those who haven’t had a chance to listen to you guys yet and check you out, why should people make themselves aware of It Boys! right away?
Matt: I feel we’re very different from most bands. We are just a good mood, have fun, get up and party kind of band. We don’t take life too seriously, and I think that shows in our music and live performance.
DP!: There’s an awful lot of different bands on this year’s line-up. Why should people come and catch your set?
Matt: We will NOT bore you. If you feel like dancing and/or just enjoying some easy listening music paired with a high energy show, make sure that you come on by and watch us.
DP!: Will you be letting yourself go at the after party once all the bands have finished up?
Matt: Haha. Well, that goes without saying.
DP!: What do you guys have planned after Slam Dunk is over?
Matt: After we wrap up our UK run, we will head back to the US for the Vans Warped Tour, followed by another tour… and then most likely another. We plan on staying on the road as much as we possibly can. Our album will be released in the UK on June 5th shortly followed by a US release date. We plan on promoting our record by travelling the world until every last pop fan gets a chance to hear about us.
