With a bit of a lengthy absence from the cold British lands to write new record ‘Siberia’ in her equally cold homeland of Canada, the buzz for Lights in the UK has swelled surprisingly well, and with a slight dubstep and grit in her new record it’s got all the ingredients to act as the locomotive if she can fuel it with an energetic live show.

Fellow Canadians and sole support act Nightbox (**) are definitely suit as an act to open up for the evening’s headliner, but it’s a shame that what they bring to the table lacks a little character and distinctability. There seems be very little escence in each track, each one being hard to identify with one another, and the electro vibes fail to spark electricity in the air.

Not all is at a loss though, as Lights (****) more than capable connects the circuit board and surges energy throughout the packed out venue. Opener ‘Banner’ incites a rather infatuated fan to literally raise a home-made banner in the air, dedicated their love to the electro-pop songstress. This love continues throughout her set, through the dubstep brushed likes of ‘Siberia’ and ‘Toes’, her acoustic rendition of ‘River’ and also looks back to her debut with ‘Ice’ and ‘The Last Thing On Your Mind’. There’s not a note out of place and the crowd thirst for more and more.

Particular highlights however include her outstanding vocal performance through ‘Flux And Flow’ and the acoustic closer of ‘February Air’, both of which she brings such surprising power from her dainty body, appearing as if completely effortlessly. Her backing band has truly brought her sound into the next level of its evolution progress, and it’ll be interesting what stage will be coming when she evolves next.
